Probably a knackered battery then, they don’t tend to like being nearly flat a lot of the time and if it gets like that repeatedly then even long drives tend not to work for long. It happened to a couple of batteries in my last car due to lack of use as I was WFH.

Anyone know if its ok to put non-spec tyres on BMW? Looking at Contact 7s which have Maserati "MGT" on them. Dont really want PS4S as the contacts are better, just upgrading from 20 to 21 wheels on the 640d.

I wouldn't put tyres made for another manufacturer on the car, but it won't be harmful. It's just that they'll be setup in the way, in this case, Maserati deem fit.


May negatively impact handling and steering, but can't see it being harmful.


Can you not get standard Conti 7s?
 
Only ones they do in that size have the MGT mark on them..

It's impossible to say without know what changes were made (if any) for the specific car it was made for.

I know what a BMW diesel drives like. (Maybe not the newer ones but certainly the 2006 -2010 era.

And yes I need to drive a petrol. Ill see if I can get the garage that I posted near the start who was selling the 420i gran coup to let me test drive it (even though I prob won't go for that one )
 
Why not just make a trip to your nearest car supermarket? Likely they'll have a 2.0 diesel and a 2.0 petrol BMW available even if not the specific model you want.

As above, why not make a trip to your nearest big car supermarket, they will likely have 1 series, 2 series, 3 series, 4 series, 5 series, X3 etc all with the various engines and auto Vs manuals - can then test drive what you like even if it's not the right car/spec/price.

Do what I did last week when the dealer fobbed me off when I asked for a test drive - drove halfway across Europe to Munich the next day and slid a brand new M4 around for half a day :D

Seriously though, just find an AUC and ask for a test drive from the main dealer? It's a 420i not an M4 CSL...

Its more that they work with the tyre manufacturer for the dynamics of a particular vehicle. I know the bmw marked PSS5 for the new m4 had additional strips of different compounds that in theory help with that cars characteristics.

I'm sure its not going to be such a drastic difference that it can ruin a cars handling.
 
I remember seeing a Tyre Reviews video on the subject, and the above is correct - manufacturers make very minor changes for their specific vehicle. In day to day driving it's going to make zero difference.

neue-klasse batteries and motors - seems similar step up in performance and efficiency like latest inhouse vag motors/invertors
multiple/bi height battery cells/packs for saloons and suv's (nice one) and centralised control of pack versus dispersed modules,
no 2-speed gear box like merc/cla.
