I was still an aftermarket shaft I was fit into, just not one of those that costs £250-300!

fair enough - what was it out of interest?

I feel a lot of the time - fitters are selling the "upgrade" shafts way too often.

There will be a few people with certain swings whether it's very slow/very fast - struggling to launch/spin etc - that need something other than one of the stock options.

GT range has 3 shafts - Tensei 1K Black/1K Blue and HZRDUS Black as stock

Each of those has 8 -11 different weights/stiffness/flex etc so I can't see how "most" people wouldn't fit one of the 30 odd stock shaft options.....

Had another mate who's been fitted for a driver - paid nearly £800 (shaft upcharge etc) for it But fitter gave him all the chat about better spin numbers/ launching etc - but he knows nothing about that stuff.

No way he needs a £300 upcharged shaft over any of the stock options.

It's a common push for sales - the vast majority of golfers fit within the range of the stock options available. If your friend is convinced that he needs a particular shaft etc, ask him about his irons, fairway woods etc - are they all just as "upgraded"? Unless you're essentially a plus handicapper, you don't need any of those upgraded options.

I was trying not to pay too much attention to what I was being given to test, obviously I knew what all the heads were, in order that my testing would be as unbiased as possible. I believe I ended up in a lightweight Mitsubishi shaft which is part of a range only available to fitters, possibly the C6 Red. I don't actually have a final spec sheet and haven't bothered to ask for one, I'll get it when it's ready for collection in a few weeks.

It's more than 3 I think, there's at least Denali Red...

Not checked recently but back in Jan/Feb after my fitting with Titleist I checked and Titleist actually had by far the biggest choice, especially for say Regular where iirc Callaway Elyte 'standard' had the Denali Charcoal and think that was it? Ping G440 Max had 2 regular options iirc

I am thinking about a new putter, do we think putter fitting is worthwhile, I've tried a odyssey max stripe and I felt the best fit for me.

^ I'm seeing more and more people at my club with LAB putters. I think as there is somewhere local enough, https://www.silvermere-golf.co.uk/, that does in person fittings for them. Not saying its the road you should go down but I do think there is value in learning about your stroke through technology.

LAB are certainly interesting techwise etc - But personally think they are absolutely the worst looking putters in the world...

Each to their own of course

Battered in team match tonight - 5&3 loss for me personally and team lost 4-2 at home.

Played awful - completely "lost" my swing at the moment... Lad I played was very solid and holed everything he looked at tonight - super confident putter - everything was dead centre middle with pace. Fair play to him. He's using a 13 year old benross putter he found in his dad's shed about 2 months ago!!! - Has 2 scottys and a spider putter of his own but has been lights out with this battered old Benross for last 2 months!

Funny enough I have booked fitting at Silvermere. Tried the lab but didn't like it, it is ugly though, the max stripe is no looker either. I liked the bettanadi but lining up was not as easy.

Your putter, in my opinion, is the most important club in the bag. It's the only club you use on every hole (bar holing out from off the green) so getting fitted for one is 100% worthwhile.

Going to be an interesting round at the weekend, course will be rock hard, playing my usual five wood off the tee on one of the holes usually puts me in position A but a day or two back I watched as it bounced into the gorse around 240 yards from the tee. Might have to club down on some of the tees and approaches to allow for the extra run currently being seen. 8am start tomorrow so hopefully a bit of morning dew on the grass to help a bit.

I liked this, and do agree, and yet putter is one of the few things I've never had a fitting for

Yeah, got my singles match this afternoon and my local course struggles to water the greens enough (no sprinkler systems so all manual), chance of holding the green is basically 0.1% :p

Monthly medal tomorrow. really not playing well at the momenth though, loosing everything left which on a tight heathland course is a disaster of lost balls and reloads.

Cant wait to fight that battle

How many times do you hit a driver
How many time do you use a putter

Now would you get a driver fitting?

I've only every had a fitting for my irons. What i do with drivers is just buy second hand try then and if they don't work i ebay them.

Lost my singles match earlier :( Not hugely unexpected as I really haven't been playing great recently but still... Got a lesson booked for Monday!

He had a really solid game, 19.2 handicap (to my 20.9) and I wouldn't say he was a bandit just really solid 19 handicap player. When I played like I should it was really close but with my game at the minute the second I started making mistakes he'd win the hole and it slipped away from me. Lost 4 in a row at the end of the front 9 to be 4 down at the turn, lost the 11th for 5 down and hung on until the 14th to lose 5&4

Cause I'm an idiot I'm keeping up the silly golf schedule :p So far did 9 on Tuesday, 18 on Wednesday, Thursday and Today. Tomorrow is a 9-hole roll up and then lesson followed by 18-hole medal comp on Monday. I'm sure that comp immediately after a lesson will go just fine.

I'd get one fitted, incredible experience, and you'll see things you didn't know you did or needed. How you move the putter in your stroke will determine what you should be using etc

82 for 73 today (+2 nett). 39 putts :( (6 3 putts)

Been working hard to overcome a few demons on the greens, that's me actually beginning to trend in the right direction, but yeah, pretty rubbish considering my long game is so good at the moment

If I hear that's just Golf one more time I'm go a stab the person. I'm so frustrated with this game. I can shoot 10 over one day and then do nothing different 3 days later and shoot 24 over.
I don't want a lesson on how to hit a club I want a lesson on why I can completely lose the ability to hit a golf ball when everything I'm doing feels exactly the same as the day before.

I hate this game sometimes

Consistency, what every golfer seeks, but even the pro's can't be consistant all the time. It's what makes the sport so hard. Don't be so hard on yourself, what are you playing off?
