Are the xenon OP? I launched a major assault to try and take out a xenon shipyard as they're really pushing in the north and taking a lot of ground. I went in heavy with 6 destroyers, 20 frigates and close to 100 fighters and got absolutely annihilated by them.9nly managed to get out by the skin of my teeth

Same on my game, the Xenon are/were really strong in the north, as this is my first game I spend a lot of time working out the game etc and progressing really slowly and inefficiently, so in the meantime the Xenon pushed the north hard, they went after the ZYA and had in total 9 adjacent systems under control.

I managed to take back 3 now but man its been a struggle, literally heading towards a week of fighting.

Im not saying I am the best at this game, but I managed to do with with a lot fewer assets, I was running initally just a single rattlesnake, which turned into 2, then a raptor, then a second, and literally only 8 smaller ships. So in total 2 destroyers, 2 carriers and 8 fighters.

However...... I was also contributing in my own ship, I dunno what you are like at space games but I have a Dragon Raider modded up and the thing it literally insane, does over 1000 m/s, and I have an agility mod that increases the spin rate by nearly 50%, so the thing is insanely fast and agile, yet fielding 6 medium sized guns and 2 turrets. I have also modded all the guns etc and gone round to put all the best shields on it, using a Teladi Shield generator for example. Anyway, I'll get to the point.

So, how I managed to do it, was, I moved up the first hostile system, and build what a call a "death star" defence tower, just inside the last friendly system, on the gate to the first Xenon system. These are like super defence towers with tons of turrets. Whilst that is building I use the destroyer and smaller ships to protect it, meanwhile I go in with my Dragon Raider and start "thinning out" the Xenon, pouding the smaller ships, I have reckon I have destroyed now well over 1000 smaller Xenon ships in my effort to take back these systems.

Once that first tower is built, I then pushed through the gate into the hostile system, and build another death star inside on the gate, defending that as it is building. Once that is done, you can use it as a base of operation, and start sending your destroyers out to the hostile stations and taking them out. Once done, I then setup death stars on each gate, and setup a small camp on each, effectively blocking off the gates. Once you've done that you've suitable secured the system and can move to the next in the same fashion.

It has taken ages..... and I have reckon over 20 K9's at least now, although I find with K9's, you need to keep an eye out for them, and try and get the jump on them rather than visa versa, so I rock up in my dragon raider, find the K9 in the open before it head towards whatever it is of mine it wants to fight, shoot any escorts then "piggy back" it with my ship, if you get up behind and sort of on its back, really close, your ship automatcally, matches the speed, so you can get basically touching it with your ships nose, and let go on the stick and your ship will stay in that position. It cant hit you either because its out of the arcs of all its turrets in that position. I let my own ships turrets shoot the thing, only to stop it going into travel mode, then order my nearest RAttlesnake to come take it out, when the rattlesnake arrives start pouding it with your own guns also, and they go down very quick.

A couple of times I got jumped by K9's, one of which took my Raptor carrier down to about 10% hull before my rattlesnake and myself got there to save it, man that thing was lucky to survive, several of the turrets and even the shield generator I believe got smashed. K9's are nasty if the catch you out.

EDIT: There you go, Xenon ships destroyed, 2165 lol.

So I went to Argos Prime as ordered by Commander Panos.
Took the HAT mission, and it is telling me to go to "Hatikvah" but where is that?
I can't see it on the map, just Argon Prime, Second contact 2 flashpoint and black hole sun.

Only 1hr into the game really, so forgive my most likely glaringly obvious overlook.

If you have selected the mission, you will see a gold line to direct you on the map :)
Just use the top gate at Argon Prime it will get you to that system.

The 6 destroyers weren't equipped with fighters & drones on their own? 6 destroyers should have 240-300 (if all were Ody Sent) S heavy fighters fully geared assigned & docked inside them to be used. Did you had half and half repaid & fighter drones set to them?

Did you had the fighters separate to destroyers? Have you modified one-two destroyers to be a Death Star?

You see, I really want to quit this game as it seems a lot of effort for not much fun.
Then people keep posting about there epic adventures and monstrous fights that go on for weeks :p

You play the game as you like. :)
If you want as a single ship pilot is fine. If you want to build an space empire is also fine. :p

If you want to build an empire, the game is pretty simple at the start. Make some money from missions found on your start system (ignore the PHQ missions atm), buy an M size miner with AI captain and full crew of engineers and send it to Automine Silicon in a sector where silicon is needed. (Half the systems in game).

Which the money it will make, buy a second one and set it to Auromine Silicon. With the money they make buy a third one to mine Silicon on a different faction and so on. When you have 2 Silicon mining ships per faction start buying and placing 3 Ore miners on systems they want ore.

If you start the HAT mission the very first thing you get is a fully geared ship. Is slow and sluggish but can blast 6 KHK and couple of XEN M/N without sweat. So you send your initial ship to scan a sector you plan to have business eg Argon Prime with the explore command. When finished exploring (it will reveal 3/4 of the map) send it to the next system. It takes time no need to monitoring it.

At one point the HAT missions will end. (get a cheap pilot for the ship you get from HAT) then do the PHQ mission with the Boron.
You need the pilot on your ship because if you meet pirates blast them until they leave the ship (turns blue) do not fully destroy it. Get out use your spacesuit to board it. Fly it to the nearest station and order your other ship do the same. (if there are other abandoned ships in the area just leave it).
Dock find a cheap pilot and send it to the nearest wharf to repair (if you do not want to use your repair laser in space). Equip it and send it to start scanning other sectors. Equip them with satellites to drop them on stations you want to do business.

Thats the first 20 hours of the game more or less. After that you will be rolling money. My advice is close the UI sound otherwise you will feel you are in Las Vegas casino with 20+ miners printing money for you and the noise they make.

Search the internet for the list of abandoned ships. Some are easy to find in sectors you will have to visit doing the missions eg Grand Exchange I.
Also you will get a frigate when you do the Boron mission (you will see one abandoned to claim near a mission point). If you play as Argon/Split you get a Cerberus, Parading you get a Gordon and Teladi an Osprey. Which is by far my most favourite frigate.

Especially the Osprey Sentinel which is a tank compared to light frigates the others get.

Are you able to explain how this is supposed to work on practice? I did follow your advice about putting 40 small fighters in a rattlesnake but it seems really clunky. I tried with them both assigned to the rattlesnake and the unassigned (so just docked) either way they don't ever seem to do anything unless I manually select all the fighters separately and tell them to attack.

Am I doing something wrong and should they be automatically docking and undocking?

Seems having 40 fighters docked becomes a a nuisance because once they finished fighting it takes them aaaaaaaaaages to dock again, to the point where I don't see what the point of having them docked is at all Vs just assigned and flying outside.

Unless I'm doing something wrong.

The best thing to do is let good AI pilots to fight with drones & destroyer fighter squadrons. Create a fleet and let the admiral do the job.
And usually as admiral i put the first mining ship pilot, who after 30 hours mining and 10 hours protecting a low threat sector in a frigate, is pretty good across the board.

If you want to fly a capital ship, fly the deathstar.

I don't use any.

Although one thing about the game that is really bugging me is getting repair drones intoy stations.

It doesn't seem to work as it's supposed to.

In theory all you need to do is set the station to buy drones in the logical overview, give it the cash to buy them and bingo, they should at some point appear.

Everything I've googled said this is all you should need to do.

However, I've done that and nothing...after easily 15+ hours of in game running time.

So Google more, some suggest it might be based on the management skill of the station manager, so I seminar him up to 3 stars, still nothing....

Ok, so try to take matters into my own hands, buy the smart chips and drone parts and energy cells which the station puts out an order for, trade the wares to the station, nothing......

Try to dock a capital ship with repair drones equipped to the station to transfer the drones from ship to station, except that fails as the station doesn't have cargo drones, so I'm back to square one.

Frustratingly, one of my stations did get the drones, but honestly can't remember exactly what I did in what order to achieve this.

Same, ive done the phq got the dock on it, noticed a screen about drones i try to buy some but it doesnt work it doesnt take my or the stations money. I dont have any staff for it, just got the dock a solar panel on and a storage bay thats all.

Atm cos it keeps getting under attack by few xenon or khack i bought 10 medium build teladi fighters from the nearest wharf set to a fleet then set to defend station, they dont seem to want to dock tho to save fuel (if they have any lol) or for loo breaks.

Out of curiosity, what is ventures ??

You send your ships to different universes (aka players).
I have subscribed for it (is on the start menu to use your X4 forums account), then you build the module on the PHQ and you send ships to missions.
Other players would see your ship in their universe when they are playing, if they are connected to the internet. While they can interact with it, you do not lose the ship. Same applies when you see other players ships in your game.

When you send the ship to missions (there are few) you have a chance to get back high quality (purple) mods parts, money, crystals and even unique ship skins.

Egosoft has said it going to further work on this part of the game to improve the interaction between players, with ultimate scope to get missions to send ships to interact with others. Assuming you activate your system to allow that.

I love it tbh, especially when seeing a dozen different players ships flying around.

Its a thing where you get a ventures module on ur station it then lets u send a ship into someone elses game but you cant control it. Think of it on a long away mission and will return in so many hrs. You need a un modded game and setup a online login for it to work. You can get other ppls ships in ur game too, u can even kill em i think etc.

Ahh right. So for that to work, you can't use any mods at all, not even quality of life mods like extra logos or better scan colours ?? Not that it matter since I'm still doing the tutorials, but I did see those two mods and were thinking using them maybe.

Nope. Last year there was a mistake and one of the mods managed to bypass the restriction and you had peoples games facing 200+ ships from someone else.
Since then, they have plugged the hole :)

There is a offline Venture mod not tried it but thinking about it, as the lack of variety in the game is a bit of a problem for me and is making me look at ship mods to add some flavor.
