The Official Prometheus (Alien Prequel) Thread

Scott and Lindelof have both confirmed this isn't the same planet and the same ship we see in Alien.

If thats true then doesnt that seem a bit silly, are the jockey's such bad pilots that there are loads of these things crashed everywhere? :D

Im hoping the big reveal at the end is worth it and ties in nicely but i worry that people are so fixated on getting that connection to Alien that they will overlook what might be the best sci-fi film ever made?

Ridley Scott said that the "last 8 minutes of the film" will tie in directly with Alien. Having seen the soundtrack listings... I fear he is referring to the credits sequence using the original Alien music.

I actually hope this movie doesn't have a direct tie into Alien. There is no need to do that. The movie can answer all the questions raised by Alien without doing a direct tie in.

Another quote from Scott says that the ship we see in Alien on LV-426 was actually "landed"...not crashed.

Some guys over at AVPGalaxy have analyzed the star chart maps we see in the trailers and while it's not the same planet, it could actually be orbiting the same system as LV-426.

new international trailer out (must be new havent seen it before), actually references heavily that this is the infact based on the Alien universe/prequel - which I cant believe none of the other trailers did

Seems to be an IMAX 3D version and a regular 3D version. Will there be much difference?

Imax all the way, the sound is so good compared to standard cinema. Seen a fair few imax films mostly 3d ones. Only worth it for action sci fi etc

Can't wait, but no way I'm booking the premiere, will be packed and probably won't get good seats,

I want to go to the midnight premiere but i can't get any one to go with me, "normal time" not a problem, midnight premiere?, not a chance. :(

Some people just have no sense of adventure. :p

So is it just the sound that is better in IMAX, everything else the same? Or is it also a bigger screen?

For this sort of film I don't want a rammed cinema with heads in front, but the seat issue is the main thing. Can ruin a film IMO

Going to Odeon, have booked premiere seats with no one sat behind and tiered so no one in the way in front, sorts the seating problem.

My other thought is being a midnight premiere, it should be full of people who are dead serious about the movie and not making a nuisance of themselves :D

This film is not shot with an IMAX camera(unlike half of DKR) so there is no increase in resolution. The picture is bigger but does not fill the whole screen(unlike an imax movie). The bigger picture also means a loss in sharpness. Trust me its not worth watching a non-imax movie in imax. I saw avatar in imax and it looked better on bluray. As for sound, yeah its a bit better but not worth it over normal cinema. If you want to be blown away by picture quality in imax, wait for Dark Knight Rises

Although that being said its shot with a Red Epic cam which goes to 5k but am not sure if it is finished in that resolution?

It depends on what projectors they have. There are cinemas which have 4k digital projection but I dunno if IMAX has upgraded as it's still being rolled out. The films are essentially kept on protected hard drives and I'm quite sure they'll be different versions depending on what the cinema's projection system is.
