Well Dark Eldar beat Necrons 7-4. This is going to be a great one to write up. I literally ended the battle with one squad, 2 raiders and 2 warriors on their own from other squads. This game really shows how crucial the secondary objectives are (in the end I had Slay the Warlord, First Blood and Linebreaker)
A friend went into the brand new south shields GW shop, asked the guy for some advice, guy trys to sell my mate the big chaos dragon thing, then a tank, after a 30 minute sales pitch my mate says, can you ring these up please.
That was a fun game. I don't really feel I want to play Necrons again, unfortunately, but they can certainly take a fair bit of fire power. Also having a Lord that keeps on getting up is pretty cool.
Did some experimenting with Tamiya Clear Red this morning, its really cool but weird stuff. I was expecting a solution similar to a wash/ink, its kinda thicker but still transparent. It is weird stuff, the effect it gives is good though
Well just posted a battle report I did from a game last night round a mates house. GK v Tau, first report I have written and its very much done for a laugh.
9 pts I'm afraid. I still don't think I'll use them really. Storm Guardians are too expensive really because they need a Wave Serpent, if you're spending that much you might as well get aspect warriors.
I can see a foot mounted guardian squad with Scatter Laser working (although I don't know if the Guardians get twin linked from Laser Lock or not?)

Exactly, so I can see exactly one use for that Laser Lock rule, Wraithknight with Scatter Laser and Suncannon. I don't think any other models really benefit from it (Wraithlords and War Walkers are always better off just taking two of the weapon than 1 + scatter laser)

Shamikebab's Dark Eldar vs JHeaton's Necrons – 1850pts
Sathonyx sighed as he looked across the icy plain at the advancing Necron army. This was supposed to be a simple raid, the local populace didn't provide much sport but slaves are slaves. Then from beneath the ice the Necron had emerged, gauss fire flaying the lightly armoured Eldar vehicles. Ordinarily he would have just left them and returned to Commarragh but if he didn't return with the slaves Vect would have his head.
We rolled The Scouring with a Vanguard Strike deployment (deploying on the diagonal, up to 12” away from the centre line) For Necrons this meant both the Wraiths and Tomb Blades would be scoring, for Dark Eldar it meant the large Beastmaster pack was scoring. Thanks to Sathonyx, Dark Eldar won the roll and chose to go first, taking the top left deployment zone. You can see how we deployed below.
We rolled for Warlord Traits, Sathonyx rolled Immovable Object letting him score. The Necron Overlord rolled Strategic Genius letting him re-roll any reserve rolls.
At this point we revealed the Objective values (In the Scouring objectives have different values)
Army Lists:
Dark Eldar:
HQ (170pts)
Baron Sathonyx (105pts)
Bones of the Seer, Fleet, Hit and Run, Independent Character, Master of the Skies, Night Vision, Power from Pain, Twilight Shroud
Tesla Cannon (Tesla Weapon), Twin-Linked Tesla Destructor (Arc, Tesla Weapon)
Annihilation Barge (90pts)
Living Metal, Quantum Shielding
Tesla Cannon (Tesla Weapon), Twin-Linked Tesla Destructor (Arc, Tesla Weapon)
Annihilation Barge (90pts)
Living Metal, Quantum Shielding
Tesla Cannon (Tesla Weapon), Twin-Linked Tesla Destructor (Arc, Tesla Weapon)
Deployment:
Turn 1:
The drivers gunned their engines and advanced over the hill opening fire on the Necrons. The Venoms moved flat out over the Forest while the final Ravager flanked right looking for targets. One Raider managed to blow up a Ghost Ark, losing a warrior in the explosion. The rest of the Dark Lances failed to penetrate the mysterious shielding protecting the Necrons. The passengers of the Raider by the Objective below the hill opened fire on the Flayed Ones, wiping them out.
The surviving Warrior squad moved away from the wreckage towards the nearby objective. The Wraiths advanced to the 4pt objective in the rocks. Both Ghost Arks moved up the right flank towards the objective there. The Barge's all moved forwards and snap fired at the Dark Eldar but failed to do any damage (Unfortunately Jheaton thought that Annihilation Barge's were fast vehicles)
Current Score:
Shamikebab – 3 (Objective, First Blood)
JHeaton – 4 (Objective)
Turn 2:
The Dark Eldar advanced again, bringing all vehicles into shooting range. Quantum Shielding again frustrated the Eldar gunners, the Annihilation Barges escaping with only one hull point lost. The Overlord was less lucky, The Ravager and newly arrived Venom (Treuborn with Blasters on board) combined fire to blow up the ancient machine. The Overlord emerged from the wreckage unharmed. The Venom itself shot at the Warriors on the hill but only killed one warrior, which then got back up. The Warriors on the Raiders in the centre opened fire on the Wraiths and weight of fire killed 2 of them.
The Deathmarks and Tomb Blades both arrived (despite a re-roll!) The Annihilation Barges each picked a target and opened fire, destroying one Ravager and Stunning the crew of another. A Raider exploded from the final Barge's fire, killing 8 of the passengers! Unsurprisingly the survivors turned and ran. The Tomb Blades joined the battle and opened fire on the nearby venom, even their technology couldn't track the nimble skimmer though. The Deathmarks shot at the rear armour of the Raider on the hill but it was saved by the quick reflexes of the pilot. The Ghost Arks opened fire on the Venom that had destroyed the Command Barge, destroying it and killing the Trueborn.
The final Raider flew arrived, it's passengers opening fire on the Deathmarks killing two. The 2 surviving Warriors regrouped and advanced on the objective (First time I've ever got Insane Heroism, my yelp of joy was entirely disproportional to how effective two Warriors were going to be!)The Haemonculi left the Beastmaster squad and shot at the Deathmarks with his Hex Rifle but failed to hit. The Beastmasters shot at the Tomb Blades and then charged the survivors, wiping them out. The Ravager at the top again failed to damage the Annihilation Barge, thankfully the Raider nearby finally penetrated the shielding, rendering the smaller Tesla Cannon useless. The Blaster Trueborn on the Venom shot at the Barge at point blank range but somehow the skimmer remained undamaged! The Splinter Cannon's of the other Venom combined with the two on board opened fire on the Warriors on the hill and killed another six, two of them getting back up straight away. The Warriors on board the Raider by the objective finished off the final Wraith.
The Annihilation Barges again proved to be very effective, wrecking the Raider at the bottom, Destroying the Venom and it's Blaster wielding Trueborn and stripping a Hull Point off the final Ravager. The Warriors on the hill shot at the final Venom but failed to damage it. The Deathmarks again shot at the Raider on the hill to no effect. One Ghost Ark moved towards the 4pt objective, opening fire on the Raider on the far side of the rocks but failed to damage it.
The Warrior squads disembarked from the Raiders, one advanced onto the hill and killed two Deathmarks but the survivor passed his morale test, the Haemonculi again failed to hit the survivor. The second squad The Venom killed more from the squad holding the objective on the hill but the emotionless machines stood their ground. The lone surviving Trueborn regrouped and fired his blaster at the nearest Barge but together with the nearby Raider they again failed to damage it. The second warrior squad advanced towards the Overlord and in a hail of Splinter fire, felled the ancient warrior! He then got straight back up. (although despite his phylactery, only with one wound.) The Ravager and Raider at the top of the battlefield combined fire on the Annihilation Barge, stunning the crew.
The lone deathmark failed to damage the Raider. Both Warrior squads disembarked from their Ghost Arks and headed towards objectives. One squad shot across the rocks at the Raider but didn't damage it. The two Annihilation Barges by the silo caught the Venom from both sides and obliterated it. The reanimated overlord charged the Warrior squad and was promptly killed by the Overwatch fire....he then stood up again (this is like a bad Dracula movie!)
(Unfortunately forgot to get a screenshot at the end of the Dark Eldar turn so this is a combined image for activity in both player turns)
Turn 5:
The Haemounculi finally controlled his breathing and killed the last Deathmark. The second warrior squad took control of the objective by the hill and shot at the Warrior squad holding the 4pt objective, killing four. Amazingly Jheaton then failed his morale check and the Warrior squad fell back! The Beastmasters moved at full speed towards the 4pt objective. Two Raiders and the Blaster wielding Trueborn again couldn't damage the Annihilation Barge. The Ravager destroyed the Ghost Ark by the rocks and the Warrior squad again killed the Overlord (this time Jheaton finally failed his resurrection roll and he stayed dead!)
Once again the Necrons failed their moral check and fell back towards the lower hill. The annihilation barges near the 2pt objective were less successful this turn. One destroyed a dark lance on the Ravager while the second killed three warriors, the remainder held their ground. The Warriors holding the 3pt objective by the scrap killed six of the Eldar, again the rest passed their moral check. The last Barge failed to damage the Raider by the upper hill.
We rolled to see if the game ended and got another turn.
Score:
Shamikebab – 8 (2 objectives, Slay The Warlord, First Blood)
JHeaton – 4 (2 Objectives)
Turn 6:
The Beastmaster squad charged the fleeing Necrons, they passed their moral check and regrouped. The Eldar killed four without response but the Necrons passed their test, two then got back up. Two Raiders, The Blaster Trueborn and the damaged Ravager shot at the Annihilation barge by the 2 pt objective but still failed to damage (This thing was invincible!) The Warriors by the scrap returned fire at the Necrons but none fell.
The Annihilation Barges reigned supreme again, the two on the left killed all but one fo the Warrior squad on the objective, the survivor wisely fled for his life. The third Barge wrecked the Ravager. By the 3pt objective the Necrons killed two more Eldar but still they held. The Beasts killed four more Necrons but again they held (who said it was easy to sweep Necrons...)
At this point we rolled and the game ended.
Final Score:
Shamikebab – 7 (One objective, First Blood, Slay the Warlord, Linebreaker)
JHeaton – 4 (Two objectives)
General Aftermath:
You can see from the score at the end of each turn how incredibly close this was!
We made some mistakes, here are the ones I spotted writing this:
Necrons don't get reanimation protocols if they fall back (as the squad did by the 4th objective)
The Beast master squad didn't pile in correctly in combat (so wouldn't have been holding the 4pt objective) However that squad would have been smaller because of the above point so they may have been destroyed anyway.
Dark Eldar Aftermath:
I'm not used to playing such a mobile army, I didn't make use of their speed at all. I had longer range with my guns but didn't take advantage of it, attacking far too far forwards early on and it nearly cost me. Basically my gamble with the Beastmasters won this for me (coupled with an unlikely few failed morale test by the Necrons in the centre)
And how many flipping Lance weapons do you need to kill Annihilation Barge's?!? I really thought 19 would be enough.
Necron Aftermath (obviously this is my view):
I don't think he really did too much wrong on the battlefield, possibly he wasted his reserves slightly by moving them on without support (but then I was guilty of this too) especially as the Tomb Blades were scoring. The army choice was ok but really the Deathmarks, Wraiths and Flayed Ones were all ineffective at that squad size. Should have dropped all three and got a bigger Wraith or Deathmark squad imo.

Drop the Kroot as I have yet to find a use for mine even since the new book. They just die too easy.
Broadsides need High Yield Missile Pods. Make good AA even without Skyfire and volume of fire wins. From 2 models you get 8 S7 AP4 shots and 8 S5 AP5 shots all twin linked vs 2 S8 AP1 and 8 S5 AP5. If you want to kill heavy tanks use Hammerheads or Crisis suits with Fusion Blasters.
I would also drop a few Firewarriors for some Crisis Suits and drop them in with Deep Strike. Carrying 2x Plasma Rifles and 1 x Fusion Blaster they can mess up MEQ, TEQ and Tanks with ease.
