What advantage does Freesync have over Gsync?
Currently:
- cheaper
- has more ports to use than just 1 display port connection
- larger selection of monitors, not just with regards to brands but also various types of panels
The possibility that nvidia might support it with future GPU's....
EDIT:
Regarding "smoothness"... I am extremely sensitive to stutter so much so that I even have to use panasonics built in smart frame interpolation as I can't stand the judder effects you get in films/tv shows especially when the camera is panning on a scenery shot and these type of "features" are frowned upon big time....
But for PC gaming at 60HZ, I honestly find gaming to be buttery smooth even if the FPS dips below 60FPS to say 50FPS, there are various things I have to do though, either:
- lock FPS to 59 with rivatuner and use in game vsync
or/and
- use borderless windowed mode if not using in game vsync
As long as the frame latency doesn't go above 20ms, I'm happy, constant 15ms or below and that is what I call silky smooth
No doubt that if FPS are constantly fluctuating between 30/40 and 60 then g/free sync will feel much smoother though.
I find it depends on the game too as with some games, even if you are getting say 40FPS, the frame latency will still be <20ms where as other games with 40FPS can have 30+ms of frame latency.
The only thing that really sucks about 60HZ screens is the motion clarity, it is so bad
