I've just bought a Dell 27inc Gsync...and it's not mind blowing...

Before that I had a Dell ultrawide 34 inch ...

Running around the same place @ 100 fps is no different on the dell Gsync than running around the place @ 60 fps ....on the dell UW TBH...

It's when you're running around at 97fps, or 63, 71... etc

That's when the magic works. If a game sits locked at your max monitor refresh rate and your GPU can keep pumping out the frames, then Gsync isn't really being called to work.

What about running around the same spot where frames vary between 50 and 100. THAT'S where the beauty lies. Capital letters just used, yes.

If stuttering, hitching, judder, screen tear, etc don't bother you then fair enough

Also, if you're not seeing the motion clarity difference between 60hz on a non gaming IPS panel and 100hz on a TN gaming panel (the dell is virtually the same as my rog swift I believe), then again it may be time to rethink those old eyes of yours bud :-)

Ok I disabled gsync and went to Sir Hammerlocks big game hunt...got a contant 100fps dipping to 90 in places.

Enabled gsync and went back...got the same frames but couldn't tell the difference.

200 quid extra this cost me....what am I missing?

I was going to reply with a full on detailed post, but I can't, as what the Royal ****ing hell is Sir Hammerlocks big game hunt???

Seriously, wtf?

Ok I'll play. If you still have your other 60hz screen, you must have noticed the difference in smoothness and judder if frames dropped under a vsync locked 60? Or maybe you're one of those odd people that play with vsync off and don't mind tearing of the image, which is just plain wrong?.....

....Actually, I can't be bothered. I'm off to bed. No offence. If you can't appreciate gsync give your monitor to someone who can :-)

Launch a game that your GPU can't push at that 100fps and you'll see.

I'd really like to try it but I don't want to commit on such an expensive monitor If I don't like it. I had a hard enough time spending £200 on a monitor! And as above, I don't want to be tied to one brand.. Oh and I don't have a Nvidia card anymore :D

Yes

Already had a single 980 and had planned upgrading my monitor to 4k a while back so G-Sync made perfect sense to me. Must admit it has lost some of it's usefulness having a 2nd 980 in SLI, but it is still useful in some games where I can push the details up higher and have the occasional drop in FPS. Any game that can run at your monitor's refresh rate it's an entirely wasted technology.

Guess the biggest wow factor was going from a Dell 2412M to an Acer XB280HK.

It's DLC content for borderlands 2

I do notice it's smoother...I don't get tearing or judder....I just don't think it's worth 200 :D

If you have a 980ti that can push 120fps all the time in games....getting a 144hz without Gsync is not a biggie IMO now I've tried both.

60 fps looks the same as 100 fps to me....

I guess a lot of that depends on the game's engine. I can only speak about 20-60 FPS ranges since my monitor will only go to 60 FPS. Some games still feel fluid and more or less the same level of responsiveness when going sub 60 FPS, but will go noticeable slower once you drop under 30.

Others can exhibit twitchy or jerky behaviour when dipping below 60 FPS. This is where I have found G-Sync helps the most. In the former situation G-Sync doesn't feel like it is having much of an effect unless your are very sensitive to acute changes, for the most part it will feel like it is having very little effect.

I liked Gsync, I didn't like the extra cost of it. TBH at lower resolutions with more graphic beef there's not much point really. It only really helps when FPS get uncomfortably low by smoothing out the differences and not introducing input lag like Vsync does.

However, that's not saying it wasn't without fault. I had numerous issues with it running SLI (bad motion flicker). And apparently now there's a bug with 144hz monitors so it's not all been plain sailing.

Play witcher 3 at max settings, that should cause some frame dips at 1440p. Even a 980ti can't hold a solid 60fps in novigrad so you should notice a difference

Not tried it yet as I have no use for it! To be honest, as long as I can compete on the games that I play, on a low res CRT, then I'm happy =)

First impression was along the lines of "thats nice" (not sure I can really convey the tone over the internet) I could see a benefit but for the most part it just made things a little tiny bit smoother a nice bonus but not a must have. Infact at first I found it a little negative as I'd got used to using a certain amount of "unsmoothness" as tactile feedback and without that guide there it felt a bit too smooth at times and I had to relearn judging my mouse movements a little.

But after awhile I started to feel the benefit of it - I rarely noticed performance dropping out unless it was extreme and for want of a better way to put it the whole experience gaming with it feels more seamless which just feels better.

Where I really felt it was when my first ROG Swift died and I had to go back to my XL2420T while it was being RMA'd - suddenly noticing that slight choppiness when turning fast, the slight moment my brain had been filtering out for years with vsync off where it compensated for a mix of different frames showing onscreen, etc. while it didn't take long to re-adjust and filter it out again it made me realise how G-SYNC was more complete as an experience.

So TLDR IMO its not going to bowl you over but I'd certainly rather have it than not.
