The AMD Driver Thread

But you wrote about the gtx1070 having the issue and not which monitor you have

Nope. The 1070 fixed the problem which I was pleasantly surprised about and my monitor as usual is in my sig (Dell P2715Q).

This is why I posting about it in here, maybe it will come in handy for AMDMatt or someone.

Have both of you replaced the DP cable that came with your XL2730Z, with one that fully supports 144Hz eg. Accell B142C-007B DisplayPort to DP Latching Cable?

The DP cable that comes with some of these monitors does not support DP 1.2 spec, mine didn't and I should have really complained to Benq and demanded a free replacement, instead of spending ~£13 at Amazon (but showing unavailable now).

It's not the cable as when I roll back the drivers the issue stops. I have changed my cable but it was just for piece of mind as I didn't experience any issues with the default one supplied by BenQ

I'm also having issues with 16.8.1 and my Sapphire Nitro+ OC RX 480 8GB.

GPU loads keep sticking at 100% even when doing nothing causing high temperatures and have had a driver crash when playing GTA5. Standard GPU clocks.

Seems that a reboot can sometimes temporarily fix it, however this has happened on 3 occasions now so seems there's definitely a bug.

Yep, I had it at 100% on desktop till it crashed out earlier. The leaf blowers where going mental.

Something is very amiss.

So, this

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showpost.php?p=29649458&postcount=11691

Happened again. Definitely a software bug, as going to the overdrive setting, flipping the switch to manual control, then back to auto and it sorted it. Looking around, I can find quite a few posts of similar "100% fan speed on boot" and mostly it seems to be previous driver gremlins.

So going on previous advice of uninstall + ddu. Having never used it before, the correct method for it to clean everything properly is

Uninstall drivers
Boot into safe mode, let ddu do it's thing
Boot normally, install drivers normally

?

Thanks.

Maybe i've been doing it wrong, but i just use DDU (without safe mode). That removes both the drivers and any associated software.

Then boot normally and install drivers.

Always better to let it reboot into safe mode before uninstalling as in normal mode certain things are either in use or locked down by Windows File Protection. Even though you can unlock these things then delete they have a habit being reinstated by WFP when your back is turned. Safe Mode just eliminates these issues.

I have the same problem with same videocard.
Besides that even the smallest OC is unstable...
I downgrade back to 16.7.2. It was the last proper driver for me.

AMDMatt have they nerfed the 470 as i can only oc the memory to 2100 and it should be 2200 the memory in the 8 gb is the same as the 480 card.
Im using 16.8.1 which should come with airbags
the core is locking at 1260 some of the time for no reason
is there a way to save your oc profiles as if it crashes wattman resets to default
are there any more hotfixes in the pipeline or another version coming out soon

I'm getting crashing at the VICTORY/DEFEAT screens in Overwatch since upgrading drivers. It's happened twice now in as many days.

Also it seems to be interfering with the Strobelight Lightboost app.

Edit: Reinstalling the display in Stobelight sorted that part.

Sorry if this sounds harsh but man why are AMD drivers so bad? It seems like every other driver I have freesync flickering, clock speed randomly dropping in games for no apparent reason causing FPS drops, laggy control center, game profiles not saving.

I'm getting a 1070 so I can forget about this garbage.

I've flittered back and forth over the past couple of years and have noticed no difference in quality when it comes to drivers. The only real blight on AMD's side is the "power effficiency" features for the Fury cards that make them utterly unusable with vsync on by default, due to the clock speed fluctuations causing massive stuttering, but simply toggling it off in the settings entirely fixes that (and doesn't even stop the card dropping its clocks in less demanding scenes, so I don't understand the point of it full stop).

Other than that, no issues for me having used various different Hawaii/Grenada and Fiji cards over the past 18 months.

I accepted an upgrade to 16.7.3 earlier this week and have noticed my fan speeds and idle temperature have increased as well as other random stuttering and hesitation when working within Windows. I've not even tried gaming.

GPUTemp looks like this, previously temperatures were very stable.

What's going on?

From looking back in my driver library, I think I was on 16.4 previously.

I know people mention AMD driver issues, but in all my 95/97/9800 and more recently 5850 days, never had any problems whatsoever.

I can be sat on OcUK and glance down at GPUTemp and it's at 45º (up from 36 idle)

Youtube only increases it by 1-2ºc

It's definitely only been doing this recently, I would have noticed much much earlier otherwise.

Last 10 minutes of this GPUTemp graph are watching a Youtube clip

shankly1985, I did think about that, but nothing has changed on my machine apart from these drivers... so basically, why should I? Is it good practice to do this as a normal 'tweak'?

Sorry, very new to this thread... I see people on 16.7/16.8 with problems. Is there a known good driver version I should try to install? Like I said, first time I've ever had any problems so I didn't think twice about upgrading.

It's a 7970 btw.

The Nano is missing button to turn off power efficiency (16.8.1).

Any other clue to resolve the flickering issue other than go and buy a 1080 or a Titan?
