10GB vram enough for the 3080? Discuss..

DLSS looks the business in Control and death stranding. It also looks good in Watch dogs legion if you look at the videos.
Control looks good, but it's also a darker game, that obscures fine detail. In Death Stranding it's merely ok & artifacts plenty. In WD:L absolutely not, at most on par with render scale reductions or if you'd rather trade shimmer for softness (quality mode) but it also gimps RT and has problems resolving detail, so what are you really gaining.

No need to link me any articles, I can assure you I've read them all, tested them all, seen them all. I've been paying attention to this tech since it first got announced.

I think Nvidia really have messed up the 3000 series launch. It seems a product out of synch with what the consoles are going to do.

Potentially for the first time ever (what people have been saying for years but not really materializing) AMD's deep integration with the consoles might have them in step with what the next gen requirements might actually be.

Where as Nvidia have been trying to press their RT advantage but in the mean time have potentially not realised that next gen games are going to up the vram requirements.

How this is possible I don't know as they must have an idea of what game developers are doing so they would have been told everything.

My 3080 order remains but with every passing day it gets more likely I will cancel and wait for something with more ram.

It is true that a flagship £650 - £700 GPU shouldn't have any concessions made.

---

I reckon they only went for GDDR6X as they knew AMD would be pushing them this generation and wanted to get every performance advantage possible. But this has cost them in capacity.

I can see with DLSS off there is a little more fine detail in the image however the difference is so minute personally I wouldn't care. When a game is in motion it would be near impossible to see the difference. Fortunately I game at 3440x1440 so 10GB will probably be fine for at least two years. As others have said you can just turn down the textures a notch and not even notice. I have been playing Watchdogs and with everything cranked up and DLSS on the quality setting it seems really smooth and playable to me. I'll give the HD texture pack a go and will see if that brings it to its knees.

That's not Nvidia tho, but the devs of the game.

@Grim5 quick get in here, DLSS is getting slaughtered, it needs to be defended!!

:p:D
Haa, funny stuff
:p:D

hes 100% correct
Nope, there is more to it then that. DLSS was intro as a performance crutch for the lower tier RTX cards when released on BFV. As DLSS is disabled when using a 2080ti at resolutions lower then 4k.

DLSS is available with the following GPUs, with ray tracing turned on, at the resolutions listed below:

  • 3840x2160: All RTX GPUs
  • 2560x1440: RTX 2060, 2070, and 2080
  • 1920x1080: RTX 2060 and 2070
Now, you can play Battlefield V with ray tracing at higher settings, resolutions and detail levels across our entire range of GeForce RTX GPUs, thanks to the addition of DLSS. The following are our new recommended settings for 60 FPS Battlefield V gameplay*:

  • RTX 2060: 2560x1440, High Quality Preset, Medium DXR, DLSS On
  • RTX 2070: 2560x1440, Ultra Quality Preset, Medium DXR, DLSS On
  • RTX 2080: 2560x1440, Ultra Quality Preset, Ultra DXR, DLSS On
  • RTX 2080 Ti: 3840x2160, Ultra Quality Preset, Ultra DXR, DLSS On

Furthermore, rumor has it that DLSS isn't intended for open world, sandbox GTA type of games. Can't say how true that is however, looking at the results of WD:L I'm becoming a believer.

Time to refund the 3090 order.

Apart from NVLink, the 3090 will only be like 1-2% faster than the 3080ti and thats only because it will have more memory bandwidth from a higher bus width.

But this rumour still doesn't make sense. Why would Nvidia make a GPU thats 1 or 2% slower than the 3090, why won't they just drop the 3090 price to $999? For this rumour to be true, Nvidia must have something else planned for the 3090 - perhaps its getting a price cut or Titan drivers

Why am I not surprised that you ordered a 3090... all the gear but no idea (can't remember who came up with that phrase but I love it). :p

Yet again DLSS is not ment to be the same as native. Variable Rate Shading also reduces image quality by design. Both are not noticed if you watch a video which is the whole point. They are performance increases and AA like TAA softens the image vs native (DLSS is better than TAA). FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening is even worse for image quality than DLSS and thats a mathematical fact but we don't hear you lot chilling against it too. Also you are cherry picking something fierce Watch dogs legion is a buggy mess https://hardcoregamer.com/2020/10/28/dont-immediately-buy-watch-dogs-legion/390853/ https://www.pcgamer.com/watch-dogs-legion-glitches-see-jeeps-soar-over-london-and-npcs-with-no-skin/ https://www.thefpsreview.com/2020/1...egion-was-scripted-with-a-drag-and-drop-tool/.

PPG’s pokeprotos (who’s been following the exploits of ransomware team Egregor over the past two weeks) has shared an image that suggests Watch Dogs: Legion was scripted using a program synonymous to Scratch – a block-based, drag-and-drop editor that is primarily designed to teach kids how to code.

“Scratch is designed especially for ages 8 to 16, but is used by people of all ages,” a blurb on the official site reads. “Millions of people are creating Scratch projects in a wide variety of settings, including homes, schools, museums, libraries, and community centers.”

While it’s difficult to say how much this scripting method was leveraged during Watch Dogs: Legion’s development, the image hasn’t stopped Ubisoft’s critics from blasting the company for what some are calling a juvenile and lazy attempt at game coding.

Many reviewers have labeled Watch Dogs: Legion a buggy mess that runs poorly even on powerful PCs, so they may be on to something.

Yet this game is the perfect example for any feature is a joke.

Overall DLSS is a great feature, yet for you works well in Control which has even more DLSS issues than Watch dogs legion does.

Even the images you are posting are great results. The fact you have to zoom in to find anything proves that.

Agreed, its good enough.
Anyhow, you'd need blind tests with random samples to conclude if the difference is significant enough.
With pre-labeled data confirmation bias sets in.
For more rigorousness, side by side testing should be avoided and rather tests should be conducted over multiple sessions in a 1 month period

Looks like folks are missing the forest for trees.

I said that in one of these threads a few days ago. Despite what participant says im going to take credit for it, thank you all. :p

Because it would be hard to raise the price again.

If they keep the 3090 we're it is they can bring out a 4080ti kerb stomp the 3090 and sell it for ludicrous amounts.

More leaks confirming the 3080ti 20GB is coming > https://videocardz.com/newz/kopite7...ature-10496-cuda-cores-and-20gb-gddr6x-memory

The army of pending 3080 owners still deny the truth, as they can't accept a 3080ti is coming so soon. Did they really think Nvidia would allow AMD Radeon to have vastly superior cards, in terms of VRAM?

The above is in relation to running 4k on a 3080. Lower resolutions are IMO pointless (as this is a 4k card) and wasteful, as the previous gen was fine for 1080/1440P.
