10GB vram enough for the 3080? Discuss..

I get that but in the last generations NVIDIA used to extract 50% premium for 30% more performance with the 2080 Ti and the 1080 Ti. That's just not visible during this generation for some reason. Even if the 3080 Ti launches, its costs 50% more for 10% more performance.

My point is that Nvidia needed to offer real progress to the people who sat out Turing's manufacturer-direct scalping prices.

They probably missed out on those people because the performance they offered didn't match up to the money they wanted. They had to fix that, so we got the 3080.

Now what do they need to offer for the "only the best people"? Simple. Just make it t"he best" and then jack the price through the roof. The fact that it's not actually worth the asking price doesn't matter to that group. No need to price it reasonably for them.

On the hardware unboxed video link I posted above it show 3080 getting 56fps and 3090 getting 59fps at 4K for Assassins Creed Valhalla. Lol.

So yeah, the gap should technically get bigger.

AMD may just crush both on this title. Hopefully :D

Funny seeing NVidia going on "Die wynroete" with their drivers.:D

My point is that Nvidia needed something for the people who sat out Turings manufacturer-direct scalping prices. The 3080 is for those people.

The people who bought into the 2080Ti have demonstrated a willingness to pay any price for "the best" so they don't really need to do anything for them other than offer "the best".

They basically just scribbled out "Titan" and wrote "3090" on the side.

They probably realized something about the Titan name took it out of the "only the best" bragging rights competition. By dropping driver support and calling it the 3090 the "only the best" crowd can't say they have the best without actually buying the best. (And paying through the nose for it)

They are not calling the 3090 the Titan because in a few months time the real Titan will show up when NVidia are chasing extra sales.

There is no need for the Titan now as NVidia can not make enough of the regular cards.

There is a segment of the market where Nvidia knows they don't need to make any sort of effort to have the performance match up to the asking price. Just make it "the best" and set the price as high as you think that group is capable of paying. -That's what the 3090 is for.

From TechPowerup:

"Hardware Unboxed just released their Godfall benchmarks and those follow the expected performance scaling behavior across multiple gpus and are not subject to some illogical behaviors seen in this review. If you compare all cards in both review you can see that most of them are actually performing pretty similar. But some (like the 3080 for example) are just way worse in this TPU benchmark. Last driver update was on november 9th so both reviews should have used the latest drivers. So this leads me to believe that something went wrong in the TPU review, like 99% sure there was an error. Like an issue when installing drivers for example. It can happen, it should be caught before publishing the data but the most important part is to fix it now. Whenever something is not performing as expected you should be cautious and validate it."

All the new console games seemed to suck on nvidia cards compared to AMD with even the 5700XT matching 2080ti in some so are we now entering a new era with slower AMD GPUs being able to beat more powerful nvidia cards just by the sheer level of optimisation?.

As @Disco P said above it most likely a buggy game.

Tech site reviewers should not use such titles to compare performance.

The 3090 is a beast of a card and will get even better when NVidia get to grips with the drivers for the Ampere SKUs, I am hoping to see at least another 10% performance from them.

Hardware unboxed just added Godfall into their testing benchmark suite and they put up a quick graph and TPUs results were not so much an outlier, the 3090 wings big in this game on HU's tests too

It was somewhat obvious there was an issue. But I think he could not be asked to investigate so he published. Lol.

magic, the 3090 came out of Jensen's oven while the 3080 was stuck behind the spatula's like a red headed GA102 step child
Haha.

Well what I can say is at least HU shows it is not necessarily a vram quantity issue. I mean look at that poor Radeon VII. Lol.

Where did you get get 30% from ?

Looks more like <19% to me at 1080p/1440p/2160p
So I just had a look and it is no way near 30% Grim claims.

The percentage change from 59 to 68 is 15.25%

No wonder people keep saying "all the gear, no idea!" to him :p
