10GB vram enough for the 3080? Discuss..

There wouldn't be this discussion if it was a bullet proof process, we would all have the cards we want.

It's probably going to get even worse, imagine Nv and AMD are monitoring the prices being paid and set the bar accordingly with the next gen of cards.:(
So you tried it and no luck? :(

Basically you get a 1-2 minute window once your get the notification.

Yup, definitely isn't bullet proof but at least you stand a chance of getting a card at MSRP. Nvidia/etailer selling them FE have done as good of a job as they can with anti-bot measures and seems like a good few people on here get the cards each time there is a drop, so it's only a matter of time but with anything non FE or AMD... unless bitcoin crashes, you have no choice but to pay through the nose for them :(

Completely agree though, next gen cards are going to be significantly more expensive from the get go, as per usual, only the consumers to blame!

If you work but have constant access to Discord etc, then fair enough you are in with some kind of a chance, but being in a better position to grab one only gives said person a higher chance to bag one.

The only times I've been about for Discord notifications is when its 69's, 70's but never 68's or 80's, add to the fact since I got a launch non scalped 3070 and won't pay scalpers prices either.

So that leaves it as an FE or nothing on the Nv side, I tend to either be working, sleeping, or living life when there is a drop, so like I originally said count yourselves lucky you baged one of the very few dropped cards.

Going back to my original point, the £649 and £588 pp for 80/68XT is almost nothing more than a fake pricing model to someone who can't purchase at those price points.

I'd get slaughtered at work if I advertised a line at £20 to get people interested only to tell them you can't get that one unless you can sit by your phone 24/7 to purchase within minutes but I have almost the same thing for £60.

You can't purchase at any price point, are they all fake? I'd be more inclined to say they were out of stock, not fake.

Incidentally, I checked stock on the shop pages before posting that; OcUK with 3080 models priced at £1100... It's almost like they don't want to have any credibility left when the dust settles.

Ampere doesn't define how much VRAM the games will allocate. It will only choke hard once you throw at it the appropriate games.

Ah, so we are back to what games allocate rather then use?

In the bullshot you can see AMD suggests HZD uses more than 10GB at 1440p, yet it doesn't on my 3080. Hence my question.

But maybe your driver settings and in-game settings are different. Might be a driver bug, too?

Pretty much in every way. But for VRAM usage, Tensor compression.
interesting as theres a nice article on techspot that disagrees with you. i was just curious if you had any facts, but seems not just, seems you are throwing random words around. always curious to read an article disputing all the other articles out there claiming otherwise though if you have one.

What words did you consider random?

There are many articles out there on Ampere. What facts were you looking for? Ray tracing, video compression, machine learning, etc.? https://www.nvidia.com/content/dam/...pere-GA102-GPU-Architecture-Whitepaper-V1.pdf

Do you have a link to your Techspot article?

Yep. We already been through this. It is just allocation. Those cod games always have been known to allocate more. Been like this for some years. Even Kaapstad saw it many years back on his Titan when everyone else was running it maxed out fine on half the vram.
