1366 X58 Xeon 5650

@Draeger, yep I do recall that. Been a while though since I've clocked an X58 setup. 930 is currently at stock. Been through quite a few Intel cpu's since I sold the 920 system.

I'm running Gigabyte Guerrilla G1.
I've set voltages: Core 1.3v and something QPI to 1 step more than default (I believe it's memory controller)
No other voltages changed.
Uncore multiplier to match 3200mhz
OPI multiplier auto
Memory XMP 1600MHZ

You should be able to drop that voltage a little if you only want 4.0. If you can be bothered :)

Otherwise looks like you should be good to push for 4.4 ?

My E5649 has been fine on air at 1.45v for 9months+
Lower multi so had to give it a bit more volts than a 5650 etc but doesnt seem to be a issue yet

Mine arrived this morning. Off to fit it/swap it out with my 920. Quick question - what thermal paste method of application have you guys been using for the Xeons? Pea shape in the middle, 'X' shape etc?

Cool, ta.

Had a Google this morning and my current BIOS (0303) should work fine so I think I'll just swap it out and drop it right in. I'm wondering if my current overclocking tweaks for the 920 will be ok to leave in place? Haven't done much, just tweaked the BCLK and the RAM timings a little.

Right, all installed. Hyper 612S cooler was a bit of a pain removing/refitting but got there in the end. Currently idling while I type this at 16-25 degrees C. :D

It didn't like my old 920 overclock so had to revert back to factory values to get it to boot. I'll post some screenies in a bit from CPU-Z and my BIOS and hopefully get some advice from you Xeon owners on what to tweak to get it sitting at around the 4 Ghz mark.

Oh.....and I can confirm that BIOS rev 0303 on my Asus P6X58D-E is fine.

i would reset the bios to defaults in case any settings in place stop the PC booting when the Xeon is in as it will save you the hassle of swapping back over or doing a clear cmos route

Yep, that's what I did m8. Couple of screenies on default BIOS values. What should I look at to tweak to 4Ghz? As I said, motherboard is an Asus P6X58D-E.
