1366 X58 Xeon 5650

hey guys, i have a sabertooth x58 sitting around and have been told about the xenon cpus.
i currently have an i5 2500k oc to 4.6 on a asus extreem 4 gen 3 mobo in my rig but i do a lot of video recording an editing. right now im using shadow play to record because my cpu cant handle the newer games and rendering times are not the best. do you think it would be worth getting a xenon for my sabertooth? if so which do you reccomend?

Get an x5650 and test it out. In video editing/rendering itll be faster if clocked to 4ghz+ as you're gaining 2 cores and hyperthreading.

The reason I bought a X5660 set up, I do a bit of video editing and the extra two cores (And the help of a HD6850) Makes rendering a lot easier.

My 4GHz xeon massively outperforms my 3770k @4.4Ghz in regards to rendering times.

Running Sony Vegas, stock clocks 2.8GHz and a 6850, its flying through a render, 7min 1080p 60fps 50mbps and its telling me it'll be done in 5 mins, My 3770k doing something similar with a GTX 980 would have taken 30mins, I'm so happy with this set up, Tomorrow if I can hit a nice stable 4Ghz with minimal voltage gain and nice cool temps i'll be happy.

Sabertooth is one of the best boards you can use with Xeon cpus. You will see massive improvements for rendering since you are only on an i5. You're going from 4cores/4threads to 6cores/12threads. An overclocked x58 Xeon is on par with a stock 5820k.

Just picked up a 5670 for 70 quid, the extra multiplier should take me to 4ghz as I'm held back by bus speeds! Probably not worth the effort for 400mhz but hey ho :)

thanks, would i see any benfit in gaming or recording with obs etc?

I say you would. Games are starting to take advantage of more threads. The extra cores should also help with obs. If you had a i7-2600k instead than maybe it will be a lot closer. Check this review out: http://www.overclock-and-game.com/h...reviews/28-x5660-review?showall=1&limitstart=. Goes into detail comparing it to i7-3970x, i7-4960x and other cpus. Look how much of a beast these Xeons are. They are usually just slightly behind in performance. You can also find them for way cheaper on ebay. He still runs a x58 setup with a fury x and is beasting it. He uses a Sabertooth btw.

Reset to defaults, then whack VCore and QPI to 1.3 V, then set BCLK to 200 MHz and multiplier to 20x to start with.

If your board allows it, try 21x after that. If that works, try 22x.

doesn't work, wont post on anything but default settings with x5650, I think its an issue with this gigabyte board GA-EX58-UD4P

going to put my i7 back in :(

Any of you guys have Gigabyte GA-EX58-UD5 (rev 1.0) board and x5670 CPU?

Would you mind sharing your settings for 4.0/4.2GHz OC?

I can get my desktop to boot with 1.3v vCore, 20 multi and 200 BCLK but any stress testing results in instant BSOD (pretty much)

Did you set the multiplier to 20x? If not, it'll go up to 4.6 GHz sometimes and that's almost always too much.

See my post a few pages back similar setup

yes I did, I have googled the motherboard nobody has managed to get this board to successfully work with an overclocked Xeon. The i7 is back in. I'll probably keep it like this and sell the x5650. Its a lot of hastle to swap out the CPU when you have to wrestle with a phanteks Primo and watercooler backplate at the same time.

Hey guy's, I tried my x5650 it won't post. I have Asus p6t deluxe, I read it is supporting it, but won't post, put my old 920 in all good, please help? Did I bought a dead chip?
