1366 X58 Xeon 5650

Well got mine installed now at stock... board needed a bios clear then it booted up fine.

I have used the supplied paste with the heatsink in my sig and its running idle at 26 oC !!

A quick run of burn test for 30mins at stock and it only went up to 45 oC :D

No time to overclock today but this could be a nice chip.

Hmmmm!

Just tried running IBT and temps into the 80s in no time at all. Seems 4.7 isn't such a good idea after all !! I think I will try 4.5 instead.

80s is nothing for those chips ! they're 1366 remember, with a TJMAX of around 103c.

In fact, for those clocks 80s is perfectly fine. My 3970X runs 80s @ 4.9ghz and I don't worry as the volts are pretty low (1.42v on a hex).

Edit. My I7 950 hit 92c @ 4ghz on a NH-D14 !

Ah OK thanks for the advice, you think its OK even at 1.4v + ?

80 on water just feels so wrong :)

I don't know for sure about the voltages on Westmere TBH. It should be easy enough to find out what people see as a good limit.

I looked around and it seems Intel state 1.4v as the maximum, but some crazy person was giving their 980x 1.55-1.6v.

Don't worry about the temps. 80 is very low for that chip, at those clocks, with that voltage.

If you load up Realtemp it will tell you the TJMAX (or thermal junction) of your CPU. It should be in the 90s.

any difference between the costa rica V's malay CPU?
im considering this upgrade from my 920 @ 3.6, as the seller has both CR & Malay chips and has just reduced the price a bit more on them to £46 delivered and is open to offers ;)

Added another 6 gb ram to my x58 but the systems is hanging in windows....remove the ram and all is stable again...

Any ideas what setting I Need to change in the p6t se bios?

My x5650 arrive today.

after about an hour of OC, I decided to stop at 4.2GHz (for today :D)

The multiplier driving me crazy, when I am running a benchmark with only 6 threads or less the multiplier stay at 22x (22x191) but when I am running more threads the multiplier drops to 20x therefore I get 3820Mhz. I might as well disable HT all together.

I'm running 12gb 6x2gb of Corsair 1866 using the XMP profile and getting away with settings of Dram volts 1.6 and a QPI 1.375 but I'm only using a 930 at standard speed. I plan on getting one of these chips and no doubt will need some tweaking.

Thanks :), think I can get it to 4.6

I've had it at 4.4/1.375v for a little while now so I've decided on a new voltage limit of 1.395 and I'll see what it can do within that. The top temps at 4.5 was 76 after an hour of combined prime/OCCT.

I finally managed to break 1100 in cinebench... just!

4.84ghz @ 1.5v. A ridiculous voltage just for the benchmark. I put it straight back down after the benchmark though, don't want to damage anything!
