1366 X58 Xeon 5650

Wow, on air my 920 is at 85'c under load so to get 4.4 x6 in the 70's would be quite something.

Will have a look for the 5670's as 200x22 would be optimum...

I have a rev 1 with F11 BIOS which worked straight away with an x5650.

If you really need to find out your revision number, it is written on the board itself in the corner closest to the PCI-E slots.

i.e. the very top left of the following image:

Next dumb question - how do you know if it's Rev 1 or 2? The box is years gone...

Are my questions dumb?:(. It tells you in cpuz no?

Neither are dumb questions.

It doesn't tell you in CPUz directly but it can be worked out from there.

Here is my CPUz mainboard screen

CPUz1.jpg

Notice on the Bios version line mine says F5

Well if you check on the Gigabyte support pages it will tell you what bios is for which revision.

as you can see here

REV 1

REV 2

Hope that has helped.

Now all I need is for Christmas to get here so I can have my 5650, flash the board to the latest bios and get clocking. :)

My 5670 comes tomorrow, however my bios according to cpuz is showing version FJ and i dont see it on the gigabyte bios list . I updated the bios but it was awhile ago now...

Or you can just open your case and look at the board.

Apologies - I forgot to mention that my rev 1.0 with F11 BIOS is actually an X58-UD3R (not an X58A-UD3R).

Tell me about, They are like gold dust...:(

I looked at his thread earlier. He's hoping to get one for peanuts, ain't gonna happen. He should have bitten off the guy's arms who offered him a Sabertooth for £100. That was actually cheap, they go for £150 on auction sites.

But he's asking for a board for £40-£70 and for that he doesn't have a *********'s chance in hell. People just won't sell them cheap as they know they can get the equivalent of a 980x (once a £900 CPU) for £70.

I've seen loads of decent boards going for BIN on auction for £140, tbh? I wouldn't be hoping to get one for much less than that, especially a good one.

throwing good money after bad ;)

id get into s2011 instead.

Sorry bud but thats a load of rubbish :) A 5650/5670 is an extremely capable CPU for gaming/workstation use. Makes much more sense than shelling out on a new mobo and CPU combo if youre already on X58

Thats because I thought they were still £40 - £70, I didn't realise everybody lost their minds when they discovered you could put Xeons in them... I have increased my budget to £90, and have emailed the Sabertooth guy a couple of times, and he hasn't replied... :(
