1366 X58 Xeon 5650

No probs, motherboard is an Asus P6T 1408 Bios

CPU 5670 @ 4.4GHz
Multiplier - 22x
BCLK - 200
DRAM - DDR3-1203 (my RAM is only 1333)
UCLK - 2406
CPU Voltage - 1.35 (had to up it)
CPU PLL Voltage - 1.96
QPI\DRAM Core Voltage - 1.36250
DRAM Bus Voltage - 1.6

On an hours test with OCCT and Prime, the hottest core got to 78c with the average being 74c. I'm using some rubbish TIM at the moment so I might be able to improve it.

Interesting you have your PLL voltage at 1.96, don't think I've ever been that high before.

I'm still tweaking mine for 4.4 but I'm sure she can get there.

Just trying to work out the best combo with volts etc

Couldnt tell you if the PLL setting is right or wrong to be honest, I'm not the most knowledgeable person at overclocking :) I came across it in a google search and it shows up in purple in my bios when I set to that (warning ones show up in red). I might try backing off and see what happens.

Vcore is nice imo my 960's at 1.38 @ 4.4,CPU PLL for me is auto(auto seems to keep it about min for me last i looked, 1.81ish) i did sod about with it but didnt seem to matter much so i just left it on auto, long term i think i'll jump on a 5670 seems a cheaper upgrade path for me and see how X99 matures

Secured a Rampage II Extreme, now looking for a CPU. :D

How much did you guys pay for X5650's? Cheapest one from UK is £69 that I can find. Or £59 and potential import charges from China. If someone knows a better deal, can you trust message it to me? :)

Thanks!

I have a 920 air cooled at 3.8 ghz with 6gb ram, in laymans terms what sort of improvement would I see putting one of these in?
Would I be able to hit 3.8 on air?

I mainly use Lightroom and Photoshop with some cad and a little gaming too

If you use Lightroom and Photoshop a lot its a nobrainer mate.

As for your overclock on air I'm not sure (depends how good your cooler is) but they do run much, much cooler than your current cpu that I do know, considering there is another 2 cores quite impressive I think!

I'm pretty sure you could get to 3.8-4 no problem to be honest if you air cooler is half decent.

;)

This is both awesome and depressing. It shows how slow the improvements in Intel's current line up is, when such an old system can still easily compete against their latest and greatest.

Amazing overclocks chaps, make me regret selling my dual socket 1366 system now for an Ivy-EP one. :(

Cheers I think ill get one of these then, the cooler (although I forget the type) is a high spec air cooler so should be good

Been keeping my eyes on this kind of thing too but getting motherboards seems to be the biggest challenge. Ideally wanted a dual socket motherboard to get a couple of these in cause I think they would make amazing value for money.

Forgot to link my new card to my PayPal account, so PayPal have gone ahead and used an eCheque to pay the seller, which will take 7 - 9 days. They didn't even prompt me to link a new card before doing this...

So my CPU is at least 10 days away

I always thought that Xeon's weren't that good for gaming, perhaps times have changed.

This or a X99 setup. hmm.

Rather depends which Xeon. I think people probably meant that they don't offer anything extra over their desktop counterparts, so getting a Xeon would be a waste of money. For example, buying a Xeon E5450 for £800 instead of a Q9650 for £300 would have been pointless. But if you could get an E5450 for less than a Q9650, then it would be a good purchase.

If the price is right, then there certainly won't be anything wrong with it. These are essentially the same as i7 Extremes once you overclock them, they are just cheaper because companies are refreshing their servers. :)
