who would agree the x58 is the best platform ever made ?
I've used loads x79, x48, x38, z77, z68,p67 and older 775's and none have matched the sustainability of this platform
Because one generation of 6 cores just happened to be compatible? x58 was a dead end when it was new. The upgrade is nice because now you can use more cores for more everyday things, like gaming.
However don't forget you are still down 20-40% clock for clock on IPC compared to the latest generation, http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/444?vs=836 two more cores and it's still pretty close.
However as a original purchaser of the dead end 1366, I'm pleased to see data centres offloading some cpus that just happened to fit in an old board at a good price
I wouldn't buy a 1366 board now though. We got lucky
