1366 X58 Xeon 5650

Can anyone answer me this?

Short answer no

The most overclocker want get x5670 for higher multiplayer

x5650 x5660 x5670 is same the difference only is multiplayer

higher multiplayer help with overclock

if you have motherboard can't pass Bclk 200 so when you have x5650 you no pass 4.40ghz with turbo or 4.0ghz without turbo

so higher multiplayer will help with overclock

I have gone ahead and ordered both a 5650 and a 5670! If I cant get the 5670 to run much better on my motherboard then I will sell it.

Those of you who have been running this Xeons in Gigabyte motherboards, what Bios are you using?
I have the GA-X58A-UD3R rev 1.

I am currently on bios F3

Should I update to the F8a bios even though it is only a beta?

You should update bios to run xeon

I use f8a bios

Thanks guys.

Family are away for the week, so I am looking forward to some quiet time putting these xeons through their paces.

Can any of you guys we gigabyte boards help me out by posting the settings you have used?

If anyone's interested, with a Xeon, X58 supports up to 288GB RAM officially. The 24gb limitation on 920s is from the CPU not the chipset. Whether most boards will I don't know but I can tell you that I'm running 32gb without any issues on a P6T-SE.

yes this right i see a lot of users installed 48Gb without issues :)

Just about to order one from ebay, just trying to research compatibility. I have an msi x58m, does anyone know if these Xeons are supported?

I have installed a x5650. I have run into some strange problems with memory settings. It boots fine with the stock settings of 7 7 7 20, but when I change the timings to 8 8 8 24 it fails to boot. That really doesn't make sense to me. Same thing happens if I increase to 9 9 9. I have tried altering the ram voltage but that doesn't seem to make a difference.
Anyhow able to offer any insight into why this might be?

Hi,
It's not in the list of supported CPUs on the MSI documentation for this board however there are a few sites with confirmation that it's compatible.

See http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1847474 and http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2335636&page=30

Note that you will need to ensure you've got later revision of BIOS that adds support for Xeons.

I have been making some progress with my 5670.

It was fairly stable at 22 * 180 with a vcore of only 1.275. It ran prime for about six hours without issue, before windows restarted.
IT seems to handle 182 fine as well, but going to 190+ seems to require a big jump in VCore to 1.35+

my other settings (which I have kept the same as I am increasing the bclk)

Ram 8 8 8 24 with a 6 multiplier
Uncore * 12
VTT 1.335
DRam 1.64 (Ram is rated to 1.65)

A critical point for me was locking down the Uncore. The xeons can run with min 1.5 * Ram frequency, so going higher than 2* might cause unnecessary issues. I had left the uncore multiplier on auto, and it was defaulting to much higher than 2* Ram. locknig it down made a massive difference in stabilising higher base clocks. Before I locked it down I was only able to increase bclk by about 10, i.e to 143! So definitely made a big difference locking it down.
