14th Gen "Raptor Lake Refresh"

I was kind of hoping for a new socket, as the LGA1700 socket has well known flexing issues that can cause contact pressure problems.

Oh well, if I upgrade, I'll just buy a £10 frame to help reduce any problems.

The frame is definitely worth the money.
I purchased one a few months ago and the CPU temps have come down a little and my cooler doesn't seem to be as loud when gaming - Or this could just be a placebo.

The only upgrade that seems significant is the i7-14700K which does actually seem like a worthy upgrade compared to previous gen i-7's.

Yeh. Toying with the idea of selling my 12700k and plopping a 14700k in there, as should give a reasonable performance increase with the clock bump, extra cores and cache.

Might not really be worth it though. Might just wait a few more years and a whole new upgrade, although after selling the 12700k it would at least be a fairly cheap interim upgrade.

Looking at it, not sure it is a worthy upgrade.
A 12700K is worth £220 - £250 on the online auction site, so it is roughly £170 upgrade.

Not too sure a 14700K is worth the extra money.

New socket next year mate, it's being known for quite a while, not that long to go just keep waiting few more months: Intel 15th gen on a LGA1851 socket coming middle of 2024, just 8 months to go till 15th gen

I assume they have lots of orders so updating order status may be delayed, I was just wondering as i have other stuff in my cart I need asap so if I did miss out on the initial stock i'd prefer to order them seperately

Yeah, for an average user/gamer, if you have an i7 or i9 12th/13th gen then none of them are really worth upgrading to, but like everything value is subjective :)

Workstation usage has different calculations.

You are probably right. If i see a great deal/voucher code or something i may bite. Otherwise, probably not.

Yeh, i mean 12700 -> 14700 is a pretty significant jump in multi threaded stuff. 8/40% more cores/threads is not to be sniffed at! Not to mention every core (even the efficient ones) gets a 10%+ clock boost.

in certain tasks (and even in some games), the 14700 is going to be much quicker than the 12700.
