14th Gen "Raptor Lake Refresh"

With the e cores off now i can enjoy SC smoothly even though if the game is still a buggy mess

I know what you mean, I give up with it until they sort out the server meshing so it stops lagging whenever that is haha.

I wish there was a way to completely disable the E cores In Windows not just the usual "Scroll Lock Key" on Asus boards to park the E cores, Vcore goes up when you park the Ecores if it was completely disabled these chips will clock higher at least a couple of bins.

For those still poorly scheduled games like SC have you tried using Process Lasso?

I've tried it briefly but I don't like using overhead programs in gaming, Causes other stutters with the polling going on between HwInfo, MSI Afterburner and then Lasso on top.

There is the new core parking app which looks very simplified, You just add a program and tell it to ignore the E cores but I haven't tried it yet.

Looks like an interesting small app if it works as intended.

I kinda get that, in regards to using certain programs and utilities. I had used Afterburner, HWiNFO64 and RTSS. However, after using those for testing core usage etc, I'm not sure if the combination of all three being used together are having a detrimental effect, at times, with certain games. Bottom line, they are largely not needed once you are happy enough with how your PC is running, and so I have them disabled, for now.

Yeah I should do that, It's like a bad habit or something leaving them on and checking randomly lol.

Once I've tuned it properly I'll leave them off eventually.

Looks like I did quite well on the silicon lottery this time round with the 14900KF. p cores at 117, e cores at 89 and mc at 93!

The irony is I paid over the odds for a 13900KS and it was terrible.

I’m not bothered about overclocking as such but the better CPU’s use less voltage so I can benefit from lower temps

Not sure if it is CPU but wondering if anyone here might know, as this only started happening since upgrading to 14900k. I've tried tweaking ram, XMP on and off, reinstalled windows, drivers etc etc. But basically my system almost always freezes briefly at login for a few seconds before coming to, and also whenever toggling HDR on or off. when it happens system just locks up/ is unresponsive for maybe 5/10 seconds and then resumes as normal. Never happens in games, not having any issues in any I play. it can sometimes happen when just idling, but its much rarer only happened a few times in the past 2 weeks. Really not sure what it could be.

Doesn't sound like CPU, more like a display driver issue - around the login point the display drivers will load up additional features as Windows hands over.

Have you checked Event Viewer?

I’ll check it again but not found anything of note just yet. I’ll share results

I initially thought it sounded like display drivers too, but using ddu in safe mode and even reinstalling windows did nothing to fix it

This is the only error I can find at login

I uninstalled drivers with ddu. When it restarted in windows normally I had. Very short black screen before login and no freezing at all. Which does make me think it’s driver. But after installing a driver a few versions back it still did the same issues from before after restart :/

As I predicted (see quote below), though I thought Intel would wait for Zen5 to launch, to rain on their parade :d

We'll see some crazy price reductions once Zen5 launches. Arrow Lake will probably be massively delayed, as it's intel's first mainstream desktop attempt at chiplets etc.

Highly suspect Intel will greatly expand game compatibility with Application Performance Optimization (APO) and also open it up to 12th and 13th gen when (or just before) Zen5 launches, to claw back some performance in reviews etc.

well considering it only supports a tiny number of games its not that much of a feature atm.

What a positive response

In the article, they state the list of supported games is now up to 14:

"Intel says it'll have 14 games in total validated for APO by the next release, though that's across both desktop and mobile processors that support APO."

I imagine it'll be a long list over the next 12 months, as E cores aren't going away.

Classic Intel, using it as a feature for 14th gen and reaping all the negative PR that came from doing so. Only to back-pedal as the market laughs at their latest CPUs.
They saw the backlash AMD got years back when they tried to stop supporting older chipsets and thought, "I want some of that".

I had thought about getting a 14500 or similar, but there are some very nicely priced bundles with the 7700 here. Only issue would be the DDR5 cost, but the price on that doesn't seem too wild now either.

Looks like only 6 games are supported atm - so it's a bit like dlss started out

If Intel intend to stick with it it will take a long time to proliferate and become a must have or a competitive advantage to amd

Of course AMD has room to do the same thing and I hope they do - we already know Windows sucks thread scheduling, not just on Intel and so its logical to think AMD Ryzen CPUs must be loosing some performance as well because of this and it could be corrected if AMD creates its own CPU thread management game profiles
