14th Gen "Raptor Lake Refresh"

TVB tuning is cool but really dependent on external factors, ambient temps, power draw of the application and sustained power draw average. But fun to setup as you never lose out, assuming you did an all core stability testing first.

So APO is basically a profile that tells Windows what to do with the E cores.

The results speak for themselves, E cores are actually being utilised to handle less intensive tasks freeing the P cores up and as a result not only is framerate higher because the P cores aren't as loaded but power draw is down as a benefit as well - APO basically does what Windows is bad at doing






But unfortunately they are pre application profiles and seems to require quite a bit of work from Intel's side to do, so I don't know if the list of support games will ever became particularly large enough to care about. It's a nice to have, it may not be a selling feature and if Windows ever fixes its **** then APO would be killed off.


The biggest lesson here is just showing how much performance and power efficiency is left on the table with hybrid architectures because Windows can't deal with them effectively. It also shows that hybrid architectures can improve productivity performance for hardcore desktop gamers as we see APO enabled has higher performance than simply disabling E cores, showing that when E cores are correctly used, game performance is higher than just using P cores

It seems like this is just a way for Intel to increase performance over 12th / 13th gen cpus. If you're hoping to get it on previous gen let's be clear - currently you need to have a 14900K or KF or a 14700K or KF. APO is only supported on those four cpus and the Intel support page says it will not work on anything else. You also need to have it turned on in the BIOS (Hardware Unboxed had to get a new motherboard because it still didn't work on their MSI board). You need to run the Intel DTT driver. You need to be running Windows 11.

So it would seem doubtful that they would ever give this to 12th or 13th gen cpus. They don't even support all 14th gen cpus. Then you need your motherboard oem to make a new BIOS. Good luck with that.
 
Doesn't look like APO support is very widespread anyhow - don't think any Gigabyte boards support it (yet) and only a small number of other brand's boards do.

Yeah, what exactly does their: "thread director" do? From these results it appears to be "(E-Cores) Ooh a game, I'll sit on my hands".
 
msi boards support it now but its a pain to set up :- install new intel me firmware, update to new bios, download and install the dtt drivers then download the apo app from the ms store.

happy with my 14700k, only because i got it for 330 due to a misprice and money off voucher.


i cant see many people going to all the trouble to get it to work, since there's only 2 games. maybe if there was 100+
