How much are the 580's on the MM going for?. I dont have enough posts to see them.

I would have thought another 580 in sli would have been the better option, I have a 580 and am thinking of this now they are £290 delivered!. Am i wrong, Missing somit?.

You indeed are.

Upgrading from a 580 to a 680 right NOW is mental.

I personally am coming from a 285 so I can justify it. Anyone else either has money to burn or really really wants it just because.

Unless you are running 3D or want to set up triple monitors I would say that's bang on the money.

I would find 1 580 not enough for 3D personally speaking and obviously three monitors is a non entity unless you go SLI.

If he's gaming @ 1080p in 2D however then yes, he would be mental to upgrade :)

Is the 680 the flagship card for Nvidias next range?

I upgraded to my 560Ti as a stepping stone between my 8800GTX and the next gen card, looks as if this may be the 1 I was waiting for.

Well I've been holding off on a 7970 since launch to see what the 680 would bring to the table so I can't wait for some benchmarks.

I'm a definite upgrade due to the 2x4890's not cutting the graphical mustard.

I'm planning replacing the 24inch 1080p monitor to make the most of the new card (whichever I choose) so now the question changes from "Red or Green?" to "27 inch 3D 1080p or Surround or Eyefinity or 2560x1440 or........."

So.....many....questions.......! Must......upgrade....!

I wouldn't go above 1080p with either card as they don't cut it at 1440p or 1600p.

Apparently some one mentioned earlier that when you do go up that high the 7970 turns the tables. But I guess we will see. Either way mate I would just pick up a 1080p monitor, possibly 3D.

3D in certain games is teh gratest.

There are two options for 1440p/1600p when it comes to demanding games - either use a lower resolution (without scaling, so you get a border around the image) or use lower settings. A lot of games will play fine with either a 7970 or 680 at that resolution but others - like BF3 and Metro 2033 - won't. And you can always wait for the price to come down and grab a second card.

I'm looking to move up to 1440p or 1600p and grab a single card, adding a second further down the line (sooner if I'm unhappy with the performance). That way my experience will be at least as good as it is now (if I scale down the resolution) and much better if the game allows. I prefer to be ahead of the curve.

So for 1440p I'd be looking at SLI/Xfire to go with the pricey monitor?

That's £1200-1300 with our GPU making friends fixing their prices (can anyone say "Cartel"?). Crikey!

Think you may be right about heading for some 3D pleasure.

IF you ask me, people were calling it a 670ti then it was a 680GTX, but looking at the card.. 10.5" long and 2 6pin power connectors looks just like a 560ti to me.

Ofc its on par with the 7970, but i read that nvidia were bringing out a higher end card called the 780GTX around Xmas time.. Who knows what true but this 680GTX coming out tomorrow isnt their flagship card imo just a gap fill to keep up with AMD

Seriously what the hell are you guys on about? A 7970 at 1440 doesn't cut it? Really?

I'm playing battlefield on high at 1440 with a 7970/16gbram/[email protected] and have yet to see it go below 45fps. For the majority of the time it's hitting vsync and sticking at 60fps. Crysis 2 on a mixture of extreme and ultra gets the same kind of fps.

It's hardly unplayable. Skyrim on ultra at 1440 with FSAA is at 35-40 which is easily fast enough for that style of game.

Wait, is this a mid end card or a high end card?

That topic is discussed at length in this thread:

The first "proper" Kepler news Fri 17th Feb?

Uh huh now load up ARMA II.

Then crank on the details.

Skyrim? easy game to run. But try it with every game and you will find you come unstuck.
