I am currently gaming @ 1080p, is it worth getting a 680? I'm moving from a 460 Hawk Talon Attack.

I have upto £600 to spend on a Graphics Card/Sli. I just want to max everything out and not worry about upgrading.

do you need 3gb VRAM ?

Wll I've seen BF3 maps (Caspian Border) peak at 2050mb vram usage so I'd say even a card with 2gb would be a bad choice - and it's only going to be more so with the games we'll be seeing this year.

I know I'm sounding like a stuck record but just because a card uses 2GB of vram doesn't necessarily mean a card with less vram would suffer a performance hit.

Performance wise I would say definitely yes, but I would also consider toward the rest of your rig. If you are still stuck on Core2Quad or Phenom II X4/X6, you'd best upgrade to IvyBridge to compliment the GTX680 to make sure you will get the most of the card.

I am building a new rig, which is i5 2500k, 8gb ram, xfx 850w xxx psu. Literally about £1200 to spend ish. But just want the best graphic card or sli avaiable to not need an upgrade for a long time.

how high up in the gpu range do you think i could go? i'm using a 1090T BE @ 3.6 atm with a good 750w psu and 8gm of ram.

i'm probably going with a 7850 but may be tempted to go higher if there are some bargians around and my cpu wont hold me back.

400 pounds seem an expensive way to find out that the opposite is true in 6 months to a years time.

AMD VRAM efficiency does not = NVIDIA VRAM efficiency. I can get away with less than 1500MB usage with 2X MSAA @ ULTRA @ 2560X1600.

I think 2GB should be just about right.
