Oh leave off. A bit of light banter by some people (not me, i fell sorry for Massa) is nothing compaired too the disgusting racial abuse Hamilton has had from people (mainly the Spaniards) since he entered F1.

Quite why nothing has been done about Spanish fans racism in both motorsport and football is beyond me.

Couldn't be more spot on mate, the abuse Hamilton has received for the colour of his skin from the Spaniards was shocking.

You can't generalise though, i'm sure most spaniards are not racist. Of course, it's completely not acceptable, and anyone who is racist is just showing themselves to be incredibly stupid.

In real life, he is a different chap and that's the good thing about him. He has had pressure on him way above his age. MS/Senna/Prost even Alonso had all had 2, 3 or 4 full seasons in F1 before becoming champions, not one of them came even CLOSE in their rookie year, let alone just 1 point off. None of them had won it at 23 and if you go by MS, Hamilton has another 13 years to rack up a lot more wins.

Yeah but none of them had the best car handed to them on a plate in their rookie season either. I do think personally Hamilton has more then one more WDC under him but do not forget he is a completley different breed of racer to the ones of old. None of the greats were bred up to race for a top team. They had to earn thier stripes in crap cars before they even got a chance in a championship contending car. For example Alonso on Suzuka with Minardi and Michael Schumacher qualifying 7th in his first race with Jordan. Hell it took Senna 4 years before he got into a car that could win a championship.

Wow. Not sure I can bring myself to watch that again...

Obviously, being a Brit, I was rooting for Hamilton. I was on edge the whole race... My heart was racing at the end - I could feel it beating in my chest. My hands were shaking and tingling... I was gutted, I thought he'd lost it... Then I spotted Glock on the previous camera shot to Brundle, just a second or so beforehand over the hill, a flash of the red and white toyota livery, I was up, jumping around and was yelling "He's done it, he's done it!" at the TV...

I've not been that emotionally involved in a motor race for a very long time, in fact, since the Hill/Schumacher battles. I too had a lump in my throat, aged 12 when Hill won the title, and I think I lost all sense of rationality by yelling at a plastic and glass box this afternoon.

So, forgetting all the arguing that goes on (which is why I mostly stay out of the F1 threads), the race today brought back all that patriotic, shouting emotion in me which has been absent for the last 12 years.

Well done Lewis, and top marks to the McLaren team. Ron Dennis is a legend.

Well said, I too was jumping round the living room on the last lap. Just unbelievabke.

Oh yeah Hamilton has only 1 more championship to win until he gets the keys to this

Lucky ****

Own fault for cheering when there was a corner left, I mean it aint over till the fat lady sings and she was not singing.

one of my friends is saying BBC only have highlights rights next season, and that we need setanta sports for the live stuff.... But how comes hes the only one with this "news".

I was at silverstone in 95 when the german fans where having debris thrown at the coaches by British fans.

I was also at silverstone when the fans where cheering when Shumi was on a stretcher in 99.

The brazillians got some stick for the support of the fans today but I thought it was pretty light hearted panto. Home race with the title at stake of course a bit of booing is to be expected. If it was a role reversal at silverstone it would have been much worse.

Because your friend is wrong.

The BBC has secured the television rights to show Formula One in the UK from the 2009 season.

The five-year deal for an undisclosed fee marks F1's return to BBC screens 12 years after it switched to ITV.

The contract covers all platforms and will see F1 broadcast on the BBC Sport website, as well as on TV and radio.

Bernie Ecclestone would be a complete retard to give live rights to a subscription service!

I don't think the best driver won the championship, far from it.

The Rookie in his 1'st season missed the title by 1 point last year and then wins it by 1 point in his second season.

People seem to have totally overlooked this.

He's taken F1 by the Balls & given everybody a good wake up call.

Lewis Hamilton is the best driver to come along in a long time, we are soon going to find ourselves in a "Schumacher Boredom" situation, but with regard to a British driver! I Can't wait! :D

On the other hand, after last year, I'm delighted McLaren did not get the Constructors title.

Schumacher had good links with Mercedes before getting into F1 (which he mentions in a web interview on the BBC sports site)

The main contributing factor he says (from memory) was that while telemetry was first coming in when he was just joining F1 - the likes of LH was using it from a very early age, I can understand this being a huge benefit when yur just learning to race

(Im not denying that McLaren's sponsorship throughout LH growing up helped enormously, but he had already won leagues before McLaren got involved, so had shown his natural ability and dedication at the age of 8/9/10)

On the other hand, after last year, I'm delighted McLaren did not get the Constructors title.

with all the penalties etc the FIA gave to McLaren for the fiasco of last year - it would have taken a larger miracle than yesterday's last lap to let McLaren win the constructers championship

Unless Kovi improves A HUGE AMOUNT over the winter (or Ferrari dismally fail with their car) I cant see McLaren winning the constructors next season either (the only reason I say Ferrari is because I cant see any other team having both drivers capable of winning races regularly, or even getting high points positions togehter)

Oh yeah Hamilton has only 1 more championship to win until he gets the keys to this

.

Lambo's look flash but wouldnt be my choice lol - would flog it and get a Porsche /RUF (:

F1 LM I believe ;). Prtty sure they came in that colour...

Good and pertinent point - I think Villeneuves been the only other 'rookie' to be in one of the championship contending car in his first season and he did ok ;). Whats the likelihood that Senna or Schumacher not doing a sterling job in their rookie season if they had the equipment?

ps3ud0

Well that was proper edge-of-seat stuff in the last few laps. A great shame the rest of the race was a comparative procession.

Bad luck to DC for getting owned by both Williams at the start. Not how we wanted him to go, but almost exactly how I predicted he would on page one! (didn't lose any wheels though :p)

For the people saying Glock "threw" his race to let Hamilton win.....

You do realise that Glock was on almost fully worn dry tyres? Toyota gambled by leaving him out when the majority of the field pitted for intermediates, in the hope that the rain would ease off and he'd gain a cheeky podium or decent points scoring position. It didn't work. Teams remembered what happened at Spa, where the wet runners were cutting 20 seconds a lap out of the dry runners at the end and most teams brought drivers in.

This left Glock powerless to defend any position from anyone and he was easily picked off by Hamilton and Vettel (who also put 6 seconds on him over 2 corners after passing!)

If Toyota had brought Glock in for wets, Hamilton and Vettel would have passed him on road position anyway and Hamilton would still have got the points he needed to win the WDC.

So it was all academic anyway.

Chuffed for Hamilton, gutted for Massa (who drive a flawless race)- I really like Massa as a driver and you can tell he was absolutely torn apart to have missed the title by so little. But that's racing.

What a final race & lap & corner!

But what a season. If its one thing that contributed & deserves commendation is the weather!
