2008 British Grand Prix - Race 9/17

RB was only 30s a lap faster on one lap, the lap after his outlap while half the field were pitting and the other half were spinning, he had a 10s advantage for 2 laps which gradually ebbed down to 0 just before his last stop. he lost that 30s advantage as it has to be offset against his pitstop and the fact everyone has to do it, all the laps after that were all beneficial except for the fact that he had to pit again for more fuel.

At that point in the race he and LH were lapping the same (1.39's) while everyone else on the track aside from webber* were around 6s a lap slower. Even during the last 14 laps where LH was supposedly told to slow down he was still on average around 1s a lap faster then everyone.

More surprising was that once back on inters RB maintained a pace a bit faster then most of the field, must be a bit of confidence creeping in.

*who was 3s a lap slower at that point

However you get the feeling that without Brawn, they would have put him on slicks or something daft :D

I just rewatched it and yep Rubens made the decision - he had a moment in Club and Abbey and radioed in that he was coming in and wanted Extreme Wets.

1.25s in the Rubens video: http://www.itv-f1.com/VideoConferences.aspx

Lets give credit where its due - on the basis of that it fully confirms for me he was the DotD...

its not his choice though, ok he may have input. but its the man ross brawn who's behind the whole operation
Poppycock - if it was a new driver or someone without Rubens experience Id agree - but no doubt Rubens has the quality and experience to make those calls and override anything from Ross Brawn when it comes to the race there and then...

ps3ud0

Massa just got a bit hot headed I think. He was having a bad weekend and his race went badly wrong very quickly. He found himself in last place with a large gap. So yeah, he lost a lot of his concentration and confidence. And wet races need both of those in super human quantities.

Kimi was also doing just fine but when his team screwed up his tyre strategy he knew that his chance of scoring well was gone. So he too lost confidence and concentration and spun out a few times.

LH on the other hand actually had an easier time out there. He did all his hard work in the first few laps. Then he could drive more or less to his own pace and focus on managing his mind.

Yes, he's awful. As clearly demonstrated by the points they've all gathered this season...

... oh.... wait.

As has been pointed out before on here. Massa can only win if he leads from the off, if not, just start hoping he finishes in the points, or finishes at all.

Massa has a lead foot, simple as.

I vote to make all races run in the rain, makes them a lot more fun! I agree with Brundles comment saying that this race and other this season show that to make F1 more exciting they need to take away masses of grip.

I do agree. However, most drivers cant even do that.

To score a lot of points in the WDC, you have to be a decent driver, which Massa is. That is the only explanation of why he is top of the WDC (and the fact that he has the best car, but then so does Kimi and McLaren's car isnt too bad either).

Then he should go and watch snowsports ;)

Well the Ferrari looked snappy in the dry yesterday, it looked even worse in the wet today. Although strangely enough he was the fastest guy on track near the end of the race.

Just wait for all the "I got stuck in the car park", "poor facilites" etc stories over the next few days.

Its only when you compare the Silverstone facilities to other F1 tracks that you see how bad it really is. The pit complex and scaffold grandstands are laughable. Although the BRDC stand looks nice, shame they didn't put the money into the other facilities .

Silverstones facilities don't compare badly to the other old F1 tracks still in use and compared to Donington they are fantastic.

It wouldn't surprise me if the 2010 race isn't actually held at Silverstone when its realised that the work required to bring the track up to standard (increase in track length, new run off areas, new pit complex, new grandstands, improved circuit entry and carparks) cannot be completed in time.

Put it this way.

Both Ferrari and Mclaren have decent cars, both of which are capable of winning races.

Between them, the top 3 drivers have an almost equal number of wins.

But whatabout the other Mclaren driver?

Im afraid all of you who are having a go at Massa, should really be turning around and having a go at Kovalainnen. The guy had pole position yet despite this, was unable to get a podium position even. And he hasnt won a race where this time last year, Hamilton already had one win in the bag.

If you want to clasify Massa as a 2nd driver, then hes a bloody brilliant 2nd driver, he played point man for Schumacher, he played point man for Raikonnen, and now hes getting in on some action himself this year.

I'm afraid that people on this forum dont seem to want to look at facts. They allow their emotions to affect their judgement.

Simple fact is that Heikki isnt up there because he cant cut it. When he has a good race (which isnt often), he finishes 3rd or thereabouts. When Massa has a good race, he dominates the entire weekend (like he did at Bahrain).

And for the record I dont hate Heikki or Button. I just think that people on this forum over rate both of these drivers and I counter this argument by stating facts (ie. what they have achieved).

Hamilton, on the other hand, is one of the most naturally talented drivers I have ever witnessed. I would put him on par with Senna. Wet weather driving really does show how good (naturally talented) you are and Hamilton excells in wet weather.

I cant remember the last time I saw any driver cross the finish line ahead of Hamilton in a wet race. The only time he loses those races are in the pit lane, where he invariably crashes out.

YOU are the worse person on this forum for not believeing FACTS!!! Heikki has had some horrid luck and you call his tyre exploding, steering wheel stopping working, kimi puncturing his rear tyre as EXCUSES!

You have a poor memory. China last year, European GP last year. Oh but then again you have a problem with facts.

I rate LH very highly and not just because he is British. People say "he walked into one of the best seats in F1" which is true, but do you think that would have happened if he didn't have bucket loads of natural ability?

Granted he has hothead moments but so did MS. Another sport i know but look at Ronnie O'Sullivan, he has to be the greatest talent in snooker since Alex Higgins and both of them would be in the top 10 alltime of "hotheads"

People will always have differing opinions on drivers. I think he [LH] drove brilliantly today and some of the best wet race laps since MS was racing.
