2008 Japanese GP - Race 16/18

Sorry I must be missing something here. What is it in that video that makes it clearer? (Genuine question!)

It shows how Hamilton ended up behind Massa. He came out the other side of the T1 nonsense in 3rd, but then went skating off a little further on and dropped a few spots.

Havent read all thread and just watched it on sky+ so can anyone tell me what was the outcome to the investigation about massa and the end of the pitlane incident

And on a totally different sub-subject, why do the ITV pit-crew(thinking Goodman and co) have to wear those stupid race-suits?

No-one else bothers, and there were some other very nice reporters that knew how to dress for effect (total eye-kandi).

I hope the BBC goes for the casual look instead

For those who think it's been a controversial season this year, think back to 1994

I was flicking through an old season review of 1994 on a 'plane the other day and there were more bans and penalties than you could shake a stick at.

I remember clearly when they took away MS's race win from Spa (-10pts) and then banned him from racing in the next 3 races. That effectively gave him a 10 pt deficit and gave Hill 30 free points (as he won those races).

The FIA tried very hard to prevent MS winning that year's title. Perhaps they wanted to make the title race more exciting as MS was winning that year by a landslide.

The problem is that Hamilton/McLaren dont have the sort of performance advantage over Ferrari/Massa, that MS had over Hill. Hence, even a small penalty is hurting Hamilton. In 1994, MS was so far ahead that even though he was banned for 3 races and had 10pts taken away, he was still able to win the title (in dubious circumstances, I might add).

Massa got rewarded with a point for it, it's not like he cut across Bordais or anything. ;)

So could we say that Hamilton gained an unfair advantage by using the run off at turn 1? Its not like yielded the place back to Raikkonen or anything :D

Could we also say that because Hamilton flat spotted his tyre he almost certainly destroyed some of the green lines and thus is showing an affinity for destroying the environment :D ? Surely theres a penalty there somewhere for that :p

a strange race with yet another quality decision from the race marshals. Why did they have to wait till the end of the race before they made a decision then??

That explains how he lost all those positions. ITV1, for whatever reason, skipped the action at turn2, where the real damage was done.

ITV1 didn't skip any action, the FOM world feed did which pretty much every TV channel around the world show. ITV have no control over the pictures shown. Premiere in Germany have an interactive F1 setup which includes a cockpit and highlights channel which has pictures other broadcasters don't have.
