Well they abandoned the inheritance tax, which was a fair change. Remember people have been taxed on their wages, taxed on the house purchase and then get taxed when they die, its taxing the same money over and over again, it is completely unfair.

Inheritance is completely unearned income, it's getting a huge wodge of cash that you never lifted a finger for. It serves entirely to propogate privilege and is as unmeritocratic as you can get. Tax on inheritance is the single fairest tax in our entire system. I'm glad to see Tory plans for a massive giveaway to the richest in our society scotched.

Looking at those maps it would appear the last thing that the majority of Scots and Welsh want is independence ?

Hopefully that will shut up a few people on this forum.

Lib Dems less vots but more seats? (Scotland that is)

What complete tosh, the entire concept of taxing dead people is ridiculous. Yes it is un earned income by the recipient but the person who died to give this away will have paid tax on it already, repeatedly. Luckily it does only apply to those over £650,000 but still the principle of it is wrong and quite frankly a desparate attempt to grab at funds.

But why do you care? You haven't done anything to earn a slice of it and it is only natural for parents to want to make sure their kids are OK. Why is it right to take a chunk of it?

Fair? How is taxing something that has already been fair? How is taxing something that could mean someone has to sell or remortage their family home fair? How is a tax that is completely unrelated to ability to pay fair? I am assuming by fair you actually mean "It doesn't impact me"? As that seems to be the normal meaning of the word "fair" as far as taxation is concenred.

Not to mention it has little impact on the richest in our society as they plan for it and avoid it any way.

There is a point that the Conservatives do not have a mandate to govern Scotland though.
The nation is just a completely different demographic to England.

In this sense, it's good for Scotland that a coalition is in place, rather than a minority government that doesn't represent Scotland's people and that 83.3% of the electorate didn't vote for.

With regards to independence, the SNP aren't a single issue party, people may want independence but not wish to have the SNP in power.
There are long standing arguments for the SNP to be a movement, rather than a party, from some factions.

Also, worth noting, in the Scottish parliament, the SNP are in government

The tories have a their seats due to the PR system in place - if it wasn't for that, they'd have only one.

Anyone heard more about the capital gains tax they were mentioning last night? They didn't go into detail. Just wondering how I'll be hit when I sell my flat, even though I'll be lucky to make £5K out of it after fees etc.

Mr Jack needs to be careful, two people here have been outted in this forums as communists because of the Inheritance Tax arguement. It's funny how this particular subject bring the worst out of socialists

They don't, they govern the United Kingdom, which includes Scotland. They, along with the Lib Dems, have a mandate to govern the United Kingdom. Luckily for the Scots they also have a devolved Parliament which allows them greater control on Scottish issues.

Why should the dead person be taxed on his money and items, that he has been taxed all his life while earning it
