---2012 Nexus Phone facts/rumours/info thread---

There's a good reason Apple dropped the glass back from the iPhone.

This would be much worse given the sheer size of the pieces of glass relative to the iPhone 4/4S. Far easier to crack.

I couldn't care less about dropping a phone and have it smash - front is glass like on all phones anyway so the possibility for cracks are still there.

Well, having glass only on the front reduces the number of crackable surfaces, which increases the number of ways that you can drop the phone without it cracking. Also, having a change of density surrounding the glass acts as a damping under shock (assuming the materials are appropriately chosen).

From a mechanical point of view, having a glass back is not ideal. Of course, if you never drop the phone then it's irrelevant!

Doubt they'll release anything that is superior hardware wise to the the S3 or S3 mini.

They don't operate like that.

Maybe not but the rumours that are floating about point more to an improvement to the camera and SD slot which is still a bonus.

Apparently it will ship with a dual core A9 chip so yes it's not anything superior hardware wise but still a nice alternative to the LG if it ends up being true.

The chap who has the prototype has started a thread on XDA - He has a phone with 8GB memory and has confirmed there's no memory slot - Disappointing if this ends up being the production model, although there'll probably also be the 16GB option.

The front looks very similar to the Galaxy Nexus, I reckon, but the back looks as if it is still in prototype stage, and someone has just stuck a bit of extra plastic onto the top section.

Perhaps it is not as bad as it looks in 'real life' though!

I don't like the large borders top and bottom, I want edge to edge! The Note 2 and S3 are the closest phones that fit that bill.

Agree with that, I really don't understand why they wouldn't fill the bottom. Fair enough if the earpeice is at the top, they can stop the screen just before that, but no excuse not to take the screen to the bottom and put the mic underneath.

Shame really as I probably would have bought it otherwise if it comes in a 32gb version...will keep holding on!

Such a huge waste of space at the top and (particularly) the bottom of the device! I'm not a fan of "on-screen" buttons.

I hope that this represents a mid-range Nexus, and not one of the high-end phones. I can't see it competing with the GN2, or the HTC phablet if it is priced similarly.

I don't mind the 'on screen' buttons, personally. I am very new to Android, and they are handy for me. I would like to see them used in my next phone, as I really like them on my Nexus 7

I would much rather have on screen buttons personally. Plus if you root and flash tweaks, you can customize the size of that "strip" as well as the buttons amongst a whole load of other things.

But when looking at the LG there, I definitely rather have capacitive touch buttons like the S/X and the extra screen space. The bezel is just far too big! The top part is fine, but I am sure that they could make it a bit smaller......
