2012 Weight Loss Thread

Well my weight bench and weights arrived today in a pallet.
It's this one here http://www.fitness-superstore.co.uk...ch_with_145kg_olympic_weight_set/13548_p.html

It's the best home bench I've seen. Very sturdy, decent thickness box section and nice variety of weights.

At the moment I've only got 30kg of weights on the bar. Mind you the bar weighs 15kg anyway!!!

Looking forward to running 3-4 times a week & the days I don't I'll be using the weights :D:D

I have not posted but I'm doing been working hard to lose weight Hoping for a couple of tips though if anyone can offer advice :)

Bit of background for those interested :p

I've been quite successful so far. I was ~115kg and decided that it was getting out of control.
So after some browsing on the interweb I got a diet that I actually enjoy. I read that for lunch and dinner all you need really is a good balanced diet about the size of your fist and a half. So I've been cooking brown rice which I put some spice in to add flavor, spinach, carrots peas and sweetcorn and a tiny amount of broccoli or sprouts (not a big fan of sprouts or broccoli but I will happily eat a small amount) Then I cook some chicken on my George foreman grill so the fat all runs off again I spice the chicken a bit to add flavor. So for the past 2 months I have been eating just that. One for lunch and one for dinner.

I've been exercising 5 days a week monday to friday. I walk to work which is about 2km so 4km round trip each day. Then when I get home I do a 30min "intense" workout. I've tried exercising before ie treadmills that kind of stuff and hated it. Not because it was exercise but because I got bored very quickly of running on the spot or cycling on the spot. So I got given these videos which involves lots stretches and other bits. But its like 30 seconds of a particular exercise 15 second break 30 seconds of another exercise. Do that for ~30mins. I find this actually quite fun as there are 9 videos which target different areas of the body...apparently. Either way I find it fun because I can mix and match the videos so I'm always doing something different. Which means I haven't got bored.

All in all I'm feel I'm doing well I've gone from ~115kg to 89kg today in 2months. Still got more work to do but least its progress.

But the tips I'm after.....

Breakfast I generally have a banana, then a bit later on once I'm at work have an apple and some green tea. This is where I am a bit stuck what else can I eat for Breakfast ? that is still healthy. Might sound stupid but I really hate eating in the morning I don't know why but I just don't hungry or even really have an appetite. I'm having my dinner at ~7:30pm and do not eat a thing except drink water until I got to bed. So I don't understand why I don't feel hungry or have an appetite. (some one else here must get that)

What other snacks are good to eat ? So far i've been eating apples, bananas or a very very small amount of nuts.

Check out the intermittent fasting thread, plenty of people (myself included) don't eat breakfast and aren't suffering any ill effects. If you aren't hungry then you don't have to eat just because it's the morning.

26kg in 2 months is a heap of weight though so I wouldn't drop back much more as you're already losing weight about 3 times quicker than the maximum that is normally suggested. Good effort though!

I guess just feels odd. As lots of info on interwebz says pretty much YOU SHOULD EAT BREAKFAST !!! :p but well I won't worry about it.

Its going well though. I just noticed a typo there though. Its been 3 months not 2.. oops. It was hard to begin with if I'm honest but it has deffo got easier. I'm pushing myself harder and harder on the exercising. I'm sticking to the diet without fail now, when I started I was "cheating a bit" by having the odd pack of crisp's or so. But now I just don't get them cravings any more.

Just gotta keep it up.

Well done Adsta, that's great work fella.
Ive been losing weight by starting to run. I'm running 8.5k three times a week. And have bought some weights/bench and will be doing an upper body workout on the days I don't run.

I'm now down to 13st 12lbs, set myself a target of another 12lbs to lose.
Hoping to reach it before Xmas this year.

If/when I reach my target I will then think about what to do about my physique, bearing in mind I'm now classed as middle aged!!!

Just hit 13St 3pd this morning, almost in the 12's (will be a first).

Aiming at 11 and a half stone, before I was aiming at 12 & a half, but I don't think that will get rid of this small gut I've got going by then.

Not bad as I was over 15St 6pd at the start of the year - not sure how much bodyfat I've lost as I've been doing weights for most of the time.

Got a holiday coming up, my first day of leave from work is Friday 5th October - the gloves are off and my diet goes out the window for 17 nights, 15 of which are spent in Orlando Florida.

Before I leave for my holiday though I want to have dropped my weight to at least 203lbs (14st 7lb) but I would love to drop under 200lbs - I'm currently ~210lbs so it's very acheivable if I put my mind to it. My final goal will be 14st, I'm 6ft 4 so that will finally put me in the healthy BMI range and I'll be pretty darn skinny at that weight (for me at least :p)

Another 3lbs lost.

Now at 13st 9lbs

Went for a drink with the boys on Friday, came home semi sloshed. Fell asleep in the chair downstairs with the Xbox controller in my hand. Woke up at 06:00 went to bed for two hours. Then decided to go for a run, managed a PB for 1k, 1m & 5k. Work that one out!!!!!! It got rid of my headache as well :)

Thought I would drop in here for thoughts on weight loss targets. My wife wants to drop from 10st to just under 9st. Diet wise I have sorted that out at he request so I am happy that that is fine, however I am not sure what targets to set regarding weight loss.

Should she expect 0.5lb a week, 1lb a week, 2lb a week? When it comes to women I don't have an idea what is expected on a controlled but not ridiculous diet (1400cals)

Beer, carb loading :p I seem to cycle better after a few beers too!

It's not pretty but this is what losing over 8 stones looks like underneath the clothes http://i49.photobucket.com/albums/f289/Rusteh101/Howdidthishappen.jpg

I weigh pretty much 15 stone dead at the moment and want to lose a further stone. I've dropped 12 inches off my chest, god knows how much from my waist and I actually have a jaw bone it turns out! My legs actually have shape and definition now too! My physical fitness is the best it's ever been, my resting heart rate is well under 50 bpm, I cycle regularly and compete in cycle races. I'm stronger than I used to be and I can actually run now! Because I cycle a lot, can run now and I live on an island I'm actually seriously considering doing a triathlon - need lots of work on my running still though.

I think I'm going to need to go and see about some sort of tummy tuck operation, when I was fat I used to be a lot firmer around the middle, what I'm left with at the moment is the softest flesh known to man round my waist. You can see in the side profile where my stomach should end then the horrible protusion of skin sticking out from it.

Overall I'm extremely happy with what I've accomplished so far, like I said before I reckon I want to lose a stone more, then perhaps have a tummy tuck (big decision to make), but almost certainly I want to start hitting the gym to put some solid mass on as opposed to the soft mass I used to carry!

Most people are very different to be honest. I would work on the basis that you obviously need to have enough of a calorie deficiency to lose the weight.

Something like this is useful: http://nutrition.about.com/library/bl_nutrition_guide.htm
pinch of salt and all that though, as it's always different but an OK guide.

RUSTY, that pic is superb. I bet just seeing the difference is a massive boost to keep you going! Well done man!!

I had mates over for a week and was dreading getting back on the scales but when they left I was back out on it and weighed in at 14st1.6 so not all bad!

I need to get in to the 13s and it will be a big boost to keep me up. Then I would like another stone, or down to low 13s, would be fantastic. Smallest of my adult life, probably even teens!!

How are you getting the fat % etc. figures? Also keep us up to date re: the tummy tuck, I fear I'm in the same situation. I was hoping getting swole and then really lean would tighten it all up, but I'm not so sure now.

It's done through the scales I use, which is why it fluctuates so wildly as they're notoriously inaccurate - what it does show however is a downward trending which is all I need to know.

I'll let you know if/when I make a decision on a tummy tuck.
