2012 Weight Loss Thread

Are you sure? Is that with the same set of scales at the same time of day? I can be a flu 2kg heavier in the afternoon, but its all the fluid I drink in the day. The next morning it will all be gone.

Here's some inspiration for everyone from a former fatty.

Yeah I agree with you guys MFP makes dieting less of a chore
Heh, that is really good :) I'v never bothered to count calories before, but that makes it quite easy. I'll try and stick to it.

Its a bit annoying that all the weights of food are in ounces tho. I think i probably eat bigger portions than the default, but its hard to guess in ounces.

The worst bit is when you are inbetween sizes, one pair falls down and the other is just a bit too tight!

Started my "diet" just yesterday. I was originally going to go with the Dukan diet/strictly protein diet but after the last time I went on them I found myself not feeling full even after eating substantial meals. I think it's called Rabbit starvation or something of the sorts. The problem with me, if I feel hunger I get cranky and can't concentrate, for me it's not sustainable.

My plan is to go with a strict 3 meals a day, and keep carbs down to the minimum but without excluding them, and cut out ALL picking in-between meals. I should really build in some more structure to this so it's easier to maintain, and get myself that nifty little food scanner app.

Still deciding on whether or not get myself a gym membership or stick to what I've got at home (Rowing machine & limited weights). Not a terribly confident person so I find gyms quite intimidating, especially when you have the giant behemoths of men strutting round, anyone else, or just stupid me?

I'll have to get myself a weekly exercise plan if I do go to the gym, luckily a good friend of mine is a PT.

Current weight: 18st (bang on) [Height if anyone was wondering: 6ft 2"]

I'll keep this updated as I progress, and pardon my rambling, I wrote this in the hope that it would encourage me to stick to my goals.

Good luck all! :)

Think it's time I jumped in on this thread as I failed entirely last year.

Started the new year with a different attitude without even thinking about dietting properly. By changing my life style instead of thinking it's a diet I've managed to loose 2 stone in 24 days!

I've taken up the gym again and have been very calorie restricted without even meaning to, roughly 500-1000 every day. There are other factors but they don't need to on a forum :p lol

Edit: I started at 19.5 stone and I'm now 17.5!

I'm no pearl of wisdom but I'm like 99% sure that eating so few calories a day will actually cause you to slow you're weight loss down, if you're body feels it's being starved it will slow your metabolism, thus fewer calories burned pre/post workout. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Nonetheless 2 stone in 24 days is very impressive, I've certainly never heard of someone losing weight that fast, good luck and keep it up :)

Doing that mate you're gunna end up losing any sort of muscle you had, more than likely resulting in a "normal" body and tiny weedy arms. Your call, but your calorie deficit is FAR too high. Should be aiming for 500 - 1000 calorie deficit in total (ie, eating 2000, using 500 training, resulting 1500 total MINIMUM) in order to attempt retaining muscle whilst cutting fat.

If you want to go that extreme, then you want to look at Lyle Mcdonalds Rapid Fat Loss book. You basically make sure you hit your required protein macros every day (1 or 1.2x body weight(lbs). Keep Fat and Carbs as low as possible and train heavy twice a week maybe. Dont train too much on low calories as you will just eventually burn yourself out and as Monkee said, will cause more harm than good.

I had considered this but I will add to what I originally said. My diet may be a lot stricter but it's not like i'm starving myself like I have with other diets. I have actually felt entirely full and pretty content. Alcohol is a non issue for at the moment but I will have a couple of pints when I go out.

I think this has come down far more to being more active in life in general, my entire life style has changed for sitting around playing games to being out, walking everywhere and gym from time to time when I feel like it.

It seems the complete combination has been what has changed my weight rather than just the food reduction. The extreme part of the diet happened in week one and I came off that slightly when I started going back to the gym.

It's good to see people as surprised as I am at how much I've lost, I've tried to do the maths and I can't even get it to work!

I'm not talking about how energetic, full or happy you feel. I'm saying you'll be in a permenant cataoblic state and wasting a lot of muscle doing it how you are :)

It doesn't seem that much of a ridiculous weight loss over a month if he went from a terrible diet to a good diet, the amount you lose in water weight and also from the amount of crap stored in your gut is insane.

If you get the chance watch the biggest loser USA, you see some people during their first week on "the ranch" drop 30+lbs.

I'm surprised people don't drop dead on that Biggest Loser programme. It can't be healthy losing weight like they do.

A 500 - 1000 calorie intake over a month makes me think it's far more than just losing some water weight or de-clogging the pipes!

I've been using MFP for a while - and while it is great, you need to be careful with the calories "gained" from exercise, gents.

They are more a rule of thumb than fact. It's impossible to tell from such little information how many calories you actually burned during a work out.

The nutrient stats are good and obviously easily checked!

I found the best way was to just log my food & use any exercise to improve weight loss. This is not great if your trying to build muscle but works for me.

Found myself delaying getting back on my plan yesterday, putting off my diet etc. So I cleared out all my old clothes, everything that was too large. Logging everything I eat again today and everyday, no point going back on the progress I have made.
