2013/14 Pre-season Friendly Thread

I partly agree with Nick here, not about sacking Moyes, that would be idiotic but about the spectacle.

As much as we try to believe otherwise these tours of Asia are to increase our global fan base and labouring to a 3-2 defeat is unlikely to help win over fans and attract sponsorships. These fans want to see the united side that they see on TV who play good attacking football and win games at a canter. If it was just for fitness and match sharpness then they might aswell play the games at home against teams in League 1.

Its much the same as Barcelona coming over here and playing boring football and losing against Rochdale, it probably wouldn't cause much excitment for the locals. Win 6-0 on the other hand playing Messi and Neymar and they'd probably see an increase in fanbase and merchandise sales.

Which stars didn't play exactly? They got to see all the stars available really, we're missing a lot of players and people like Kagawa have only just started training so can't play 90 mins. I think you're over exaggerating tbh, we always lose a couple in pre season.

So can I just understand. Did arsenal just play in Japan? They had the same opponent circumstances I.e its hot. They are in Japan and their opponent's are mid season too..

We just have a crunk playstyle still which means we don't use the ball at all well and end up using tio much energy just running chasing the ball as opposed7to retaining posession.

Just shows that Arsenal are a much better team. Obviously.

No what it shows is what we knew that we are carp at holding onto the ball. Fet it down the wings and run at em in a blinding counter attack is our gameplan.

But why we cant akso play a bit of tika tak as well yet is beyond me. I suspect playing defenders in midfield is partly responsible and lacklustre player control of the ball contributes.

United don't have so much of a style of football like Arsenal. We have relied on counter attacking and having top class players in the right positions to capitalise on that. That was what made us so dangerous and feared. We could quite happily be dominated for 80 minutes and still come out with a win. I have played a lot of different sports and playing against a team like that is demoralising. You start to expect them to be outplayed but still win.

When that is your system and you are missing most of the players that make a system like that work you will never look good. We had perhaps 4-5 players that would be first choice playing so I wouldn't place much on the performance. We lost out majorly in the centre of the field. As usual we resorted to through balls over the top because we can't pass it on the floor through teams.

So that's a no then? We know you didn't watch the first one.

So basically you think Moyes should be sacked before the season has started, based on three pre season games of which you've seen at most 1/3 of them (and probably none)

You are clueless beyond all belief.

Obviously im being more than slightly hyperbolic but it hasn't been a dream start to the moyes era which I wasn't happy had begun anyway. Of course he won't be sacked before the season starts but hey it makes the pre season a bit more entertaining to pick the good and bad apart.

What did you think of the performances so far.
