2013 Powerlifting Totals

good squat lie, did a 185 today, damn it starts to feel heavy, not gonna submit update till at least 190 tho. Chasing u lot is tough im starting to miss reps lol

Yeah I know that feeling, that's why I enjoy the ortmeyer routine. It pushes you for heavy singles and doubles to increase your 1rm but also has 4x4 and a final as many reps as possible at the end.

About to purchase the cube method for strongman, but also really like the look of Dave W's routine "forced entry method".

Jimmy Saville and Gary glitter both practised that last one, didnt work out for them.

Good good :)
You should do very well at the comp, it's light enough so you'll just have to be fast with everything where you can.
I reckon the overhead medley could be done in under 25 secs!

good target then, i dont se a prob with overhead unless i make mistake should be bam bam bam probs 20 secs or less but ive never tried so we will see

Im interested to see where i come, im fast and fit for weight as i play league squash so im confident in my cardio and what not (carried a 45kg cooker up 3 flights of stairs yesterday, wasnt even breathing hard, my 'helpers' were keeled over carrying small boxes.) But for me its technique issues and also probably strength someone is gonna out deadlift me for sure

Just pull 260 and you will score high tbh.

Under 20 secs would be awesome, I'd say unlikely too :p

to be fair im gonna concentrate on actually making the lifts in one, so i wont rush it, seen too many top class strongmen make that mistake and im low class! knowing i wont struggle on any of the presses makes it somewhat more manageable.

events:-
1.last man standing deadlift
180kg,200kg,220,kg,240kg,250kg,260kg and so on
each competitor must attempt each lift, fail then your out
oly bar,straps aloud

2.over head medly-head to head
60kg keg-80kg axle-90kg log-53kg db
in that order.75 second time limit

3.yoke and farmers medly
240kg yoke onto 100kg farmers both 15m-head to head
60 second time limit

4.arm over arm
TBC(possibly 4x4)
60 secong time limit

5.atlas stone over 48" yoke
105kg stone for max reps
75 second time limit

Sounds like you'll demolish that! Surely a lot of that is cardio for you?

Is it a regular DB in the medley? And I can't remember if you said you've played with a log before...

im off down to train with the organiser next weekend so will get chance to check the toys. Should be within my capacity, like i say with cardio im no cross country runner but i do a good 6-9 hours a week on the squash courts, including playing matches that last over 1 hour. Not sure if youve tried squash but its about as cardio intensive as a sport gets, regular folk often throw up first time they play properly. Im not saying it will translate to amazing strongman cardio, but id expect id be fitter than a typical strongman newbie who is what 20% bf eats a lot of rubbish and thinks cardio is walking on a treadmill for an hour a day. But we shall see!

I'd forgotten you played squash frequently. To be fair, in terms of unloaded cardio, it probably carries over reasonably well.

I played quite a bit in my teens. Even though I was pretty fit (compared to now anyway - I was doing casual 4-5 miles cross country a few times a week), a game against a decent player would still kick my arse. I miss it actually, but I'd need to find someone to play against as I don't think I could commit to a local club league.

Probably worth structuring a few loaded circuits as more event specific prep.

yeah well since i train BB style anyway im more rep inclined anyway, but what im acutely aware of is how fast my CNS fatigues at the top end. So im spending much more time doing sequences of singles above 85% max, for example on monday my next back day my DL progression will be more like 180x8
190x5
200x3
210x1
220x1
230x1
240x1
250x1

maybe more but doubt it.

This should be event specific dont you think?

And yeah get playing squash m8, certainly keeps you fast!
