Right so all this excitement is very nice and provides lost of clicks, however apart from inflation screwing over the average Joe (no change there) has anything collapsed has anything crashed ?

Nothing, nada, zilch, unemployment is effectively zero, the problem for employers is getting staff, not getting rid of them.

Yeah the energy crisis blah blah, but the nanny state is bailing everyone out. Tout ca change.

you do know that the BoE just printed another 65 billion to prevent the arse end of the gilt market falling out and by default a lot of pension funds. What do you think would have happened if they didn't and the reason they had to was because we have wingus and dingus trying to do sums on a speak and spell...............

Something i don't get is if these tax cuts aren't going to take effect for at least six months and we're due a budget in November what was the need for this mini budget? I've heard all the shorting the pound stories and all the rest, I've even heard Truss saying they were needed to get the economy moving, but why. It's like next level incompetence to not even realise that you could've waited a couple of months and done things properly, if we apply Hanlon's razor and assume it wasn't malice then that's some next level stupidity.

No offense, I've no idea what line of work @Slam62 was in but that's incredibly ageist. In my line of work there's load of older/retired/experienced folk coming in as consultants, etc

Saying someone is less likely to be hired due to their age and lack of recent experience isn't ageist.

Not hiring someone because of their age if they are otherwise more capable than the other is ageist. My point is that someone who hasn't been working for years within whatever industry, unless a very specific one that doesn't really change is always going to be less qualified.

I love buying British but I'm not crazy

I used to work for a company that dealt with insurance claims/repairs on white goods. Samsung were, by a country mile the worst. Least reliable, difficult to get parts when they do break and due to all the smart tosh there was always more to go wrong.

Hoover were about 4x more reliable.

It seems Conservative MPs think the reason the markets reacted the way they did is because of the cap they put on energy bills, nothing to do with the cancellation of the rise in NI, nothing to do with the billions of extra borrowing to fund tax cuts for the elites, nothing to do with anything else it's just Putin's war and the tax they've put on everyone's energy bills for the next however many years to maintain company profits.

Also someone need to tell our government that they've not capped energy bills at £2.5k because they don't even seem to understand what they themselves have done.

I don't know about you guys. But what the tories have done is stop me spending!

Honestly, that really should be your default stance, especially if you have any kind of debt. Just spend on what you actually need without being frivolous. I've been watching my outgoings like a hawk for years so I'm not leaking money unnecessarily which is something my wife taught me when I met her. She took me from 20K in debt to 30K in savings. The only debt we have at the moment is paying off the house, seriously, managing money really needs to be taught in schools but I think the government would be wholly against this as it'll be mean people being more careful with money and not spend it.

New YouGov poll, Labour jump to a 33 point lead. Well it's clear what the people think. Time for Truss and co to go! It is actually impressive that its only taken a couple of weeks to lose any shred of popularity.

Well, I'm about to spend a load on ice climbing gear for a trip next year, because I've been watching prices and inflation is really filtering through now, all the new season gear is significantly more expensive so I'm buying before prices go up any more.

Surely if they wilfully skipped the OBR assessment, it was because they were hiding something or there would be some uncomfortable reading?
Yes, the budget is nonsense, it won't provide the growth the trickle down fantasists say it will.

The independence of the OBR is going to be tested here, I wouldnt be surprised to hear noises from the Tories about getting rid of it.
