Here we go, the true blue Zimmer brigade telling us it was worse in their day.

Bile bile bileIts so nice that we have a country run by people who think like you. **** everyone else as long as I'm OK. Its a lovely way to run a country.
Someone in or near their 60s not giving a damn about the future of the UK, colour me surprised.Of course they do, I was a young confident graduate half way through the Maggie years, she soon put paid to that, from that point on my priority became financial security try to minimise the amount you owe to anyone, if you owe them they own you and there's nothing you can do.
Maggie was like a whirlwind through the British economy so much unemployment, selling of national assets and oil money, all for a couple of pence off income tax as long as the city grew.
I'm chokingHere we go, the true blue Zimmer brigade telling us it was worse in their day.![]()

music from that time communicates the sentiment of the generation - jam, Smiths, specials, Joy division ... adversity the mother of invention ... versus relationship angst themes we have today. Here we go, the true blue Zimmer brigade telling us it was worse in their day.
Nothing, nada, zilch, unemployment is effectively zero, the problem for employers is getting staff, not getting rid of them.
Yeah the energy crisis blah blah, but the nanny state is bailing everyone out. Tout ca change.
If my pension vapourizes I'll have to something terrible, get a job.
Maybe I have special skills maybe in an area that will always be requiredOh yeah, people need three jobs to pay for their your basic amenities. Everything is a-ok.
But there aren't any? And you're old and old of touch. Nobody will hire you.
Do you have a pension? Thank the BoE that it still exists if you do.
Maybe I have special skills maybe in an area that will always be required
Or maybe I don't
No offense, I've no idea what line of work @Slam62 was in but that's incredibly ageist. In my line of work there's load of older/retired/experienced folk coming in as consultants, etcBut there aren't any? And you're old and old of touch. Nobody will hire you.
Lol signpainter, what other candidates?Unless you're "Léon" or somethign incredibly niche like a signpainter your special skills are irrelevant, industries move on and you're behind everyone else that hasn't retired. Why would anyone hire you when you're 2-5 years behind all the other candidates?
And that's the crux, many do and it's still not enough. But I would literally do whatever I had to do.
Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng has said his mini-budget was needed to stop a collapse in consumer spending, despite it sparking days of market turmoil.
Liz Truss has insisted tax cuts outlined in the mini-budget are the "right plan", despite market turmoil since they were announced last week.
