2022 mini-budget discussion

I think regardless of who it was, it was going to be a disaster. We are just at that stage in the lifecycle. Burning Truss to save Sunak was probably a 200 IQ move.

In terms of what has happened though, they have fixed the energy crisis (temporarily) and decided to give something back to every working individual. Hysteria aside, I don't see the "big" problem - other than it making good punchlines to jokes.

Quite possible they are saving sunak. It makes no sense to vote truss. Or they are just completely disconnected.

I think energy help is moot. Everyone and anyone would have provided it .

Her unique policies that stand out are take from the poor to give to the rich. That my reason for the disgust I have for her

Did i ever claim people on 100k are getting soapy handjobs and paddeling the poor? No, my comments on this so far has been people on 100k arent struggling to eat or heat or provide a roof over their head. They can afford all of that but to what lifestyle level is another matter. Downsizing, moving, cutting back on luxary spending is all easily possible on 100k a year but its not possible for someone on NMW.

I go back to my original statement, people on 100k arent struggling, its their desired or aspired lifestyle which would struggle.

There is a lot more mobility on that income than there is at 20k for example. The arguement that someone on 20k can just work overtime whereas someone over 100k cant as they get taxed out the balls is pointless since business' have cut back hard on overtime being available and even if someone on 20k earns 10k extra from overtime they have sacrificed a lot of additional time to do so and are STILL less mobile financially than someone on 100k

This, My other half gave up her £100k job to do a 4 year phd and worked out she needed £25k per annum net (so around £40k gross) to live on for those 4 years by cutting back her lifestyle. She didnt need to as she has over £150k in savings but she doesnt want to spend her savings on her phd. So she has got herself a stipend plus a student loan and a 1 day a week job paying £15k per annum so now has the £25k per annum she needs without touching her savings and she is still keeping up her payments to her pension.

So yes, people of £100k can cut back the outgoings if needed.

Bizzarre comparison.

The media is leading the public to believe that the countries current situation is purely down to the mini budget and ignoring the economic crisis extends around the world.

It's not something that any government can fix in a nice easily digestible soundbite.
Implying that the mini budget had no impact is both disingenuous and incorrect.

With no fiscal planning produced what on earth did they think would happen? Actually, they knew what would happen, there's plenty of hedge fund managers circling who would have known full well what would happen.

because they think Labour will do a better job.
Na, they think labour will do a "different" job, and then whinge about that as well. I don't know off hand any key policy of any party. It is all tactical decision making, the worst in recent memory. Brexit really wiped out any strategic thinking as everyone had to focus on short termism.

I have been following and enjoying dLocker's house renovation thread with some interest because I guess he's here in Shropshire. Selling the wife's car to buy a new boiler sounds a bit desperate, was the old boiler none functional? The oil fired boiler here is well over 30 years old and I have no intention whatsoever to change it unless it succumbs to irreparable wear and tear, which would probably mean the heat exchanger corroding through. I know he's renovating, but given a choice of selling the car or living with the old boiler for a while....?

I sometimes think people spend an excessive amount on modernisation of modest properties, I constantly have to rein in the wife as she gets carried away with expensive ideas with no real benefit to the comfort of living.

Of course none of this is any of my business, but when one puts renovation projects in the public domain I assume it is not unreasonable to comment on them in association with posts about how to budget for them, and the current financial situation in the UK?

And you see that is where you are wasting money. I waited too long to replace our 20 year oil boiler 5 years ago as it always needed some parts every service but finally swapped it for a modern efficient condensing boiler and my oil consumption halved each year. With the rising prices of oil the cost of the new boiler was covered in just 3 years of heating oil. Plus better for the environment.

You've just proven my point - you wouldn't vote Labour because you like Labour but because you are currently annoyed with the Tories.

You can also like Labour and think their policies are good? Are you not allowed to vote for the most suitable party at the time?

Politics shouldn't be like religion. Mindless support without any thought behind it. I wouldn't expect you to understand that though.

I’ve voted Conservative, Labour and Lib Dem in the past, and for an independent during the last election for the Mayor of Liverpool. I’ll vote for who I judge to be the best candidate at the time.

Blind loyalty to a rosette colour is a cancer in this country, and has led to the current shambles we find ourselves in now.

The autocue is so obvious.

Any one on one ad hoc interviews she's a mess.

I couldn't watch anymore of that. It's too cringeworthy

So much for the manifesto they all stood on in 2019, if she's going to diverge so dramatically from it they really should seek a new mandate from the British people.

Depends on what you mean by "current situation"

Many issues have been caused by conservative policies over the last 12 years, not because of Pandemics or Putin.

The NHS was suffering long before Covid arrived. Here is NHS waiting times between 2010 and 2019:

"Waiting lists: 2.5 million people were waiting for hospital treatment in 2010. This rose to 4.6 million in September 2019, the highest number to date. The waiting time target, which states that 92% of those on the waiting list should have been waiting for under 18 weeks, hasn't been met since early 2016."

Lack of police has been an issue for many years, which means people feel that burglaries, car thefts etc aren't taken seriously.

Social care has been in crisis for over a decade.

The funny thing is the population has grown almost that same 4.6million amount since 2010 to today.

As poor as the Tory's are at the moment I really don't see how Labour as they are will do any better and likely be worse. It's one of those cases where if they do win the next GE I hope I'm wrong

Have you looked at SC lately lol? Its nothing but partisan politics.
