2023 Track Day Thread

Preseason test day booked at Blyton on 16th April (Trackday in morning, sprint in afternoon) and tyres bought this week.

Got next week off work to put some serious hours in on the car, hoping I’ll get fairly close to trying to start it.

I was looking at that one yesterday :p Are you still sprinting with the Mk1 MR2?

I've booked my first couple of sprints/hillclimbs, 22/23rd April at Wiscombe and 24th June at Llandow, also booked a trackday on 3rd June at Llandow and thinking of a Castle Combe trackday on 14th or 17th April to make sure it's ready to go for the hillclimb. Looking forward to it all really :)

Yes same car, turbocharged these days though. Was running 270hp last time it was on a dyno. Complete new management going in it at the moment upgrading from an old Omex ECU running wasted spark to a Haltech Elite 1500 running COP, sequential ignition/fuelling with DBW, ended up replacing pretty much every sensor and rewiring half of the car. Got the rest of the month to get it starting and idling before it’ll get mapped. Aiming to get it right up to the 300hp limit for the class I usually run in.

Week off has been very productive. Car started today at the first proper attempt. Still plenty of odds and ends to sort before tuning but it’s a big hurdle cleared considering it’s the first time I’ve tried to install and configure an aftermarket ECU from scratch.

Done Silverstone GP Circuit on the weekend, first time on that layout and second time I have been in the car. Managed to qualify 10th in Clubsport, 3rd in Class in the Audi on Nankang NS2R tyre. I was the only one in the top 15/20 on a road based tyre, not track based! Unfortunately my BOV split half way through qually, so the race was a total nightmare. Basically ran the entire race with hardly any boost :( Still had fun, managed a 2:31 around the GP layout

Keep looking but prices for a day in summer are insane.

Anyone got a suggestion for a first timer? West Midlands but happy to travel (also in Scotland now and then).

I've got Knockhill booked on the 13th May for a 4 hour open pit lane with free instruction and no charges for additional drivers or passengers. Its £155 for the 4 hours, and it would be ideal for a first timer.

We have a BTCC driver confirmed as our instructor for the Knockhill session this Saturday

I did one of these as my first last year.

Me and a friend did this as our first track day in a Mx5 so were pretty slow.
Most people were courteous to us but there were one of two who drove like knobs though but I think your going to get that anywhere.

I think Curborough is great for first timers. Small and technical, not very fast, and no one else on the track at the same time as you.

I'll be arranging a private day there for May/June sometime this year and will share when I've booked.

I'd be up for that, just try to avoid end of May / start of June if possible please.
I will take 1-2 spaces. :)

Looking forward to getting out on track this year in the new car! Booked 3 days already but will squeeze another couple in I think.

17th July - Anglesey
6th November - Spa
7th November - Spa

Think I'll book Silverstone on 21st August and need to find a good Oulton Park date too in June or August.

Definitely Curborough followed by Bedford. A long track but plenty of run off and space.
