***21.9 Ultrawide Thread***

Supposedly it is 200HZ native..... Although I'm still skeptical about that.....

Either way, hopefully with it being VA, the halo'ing will not be anywhere as bad the 384 FALD zones IPS 27" display.... That plus even superior black depth and hopefully there won't be the same lag/trail for the zones to match what is on the screen i.e.

Given the 27" 4K PG27UQ is IPS, I wonder if those halo'ing issues will affect it the same way? If even half that bad it's going to put a SERIOUS damper on its release! Anyone who accepts that on a £2K monitor needs their head examined.

From what I've read, it is possible as supposedly the halo'ing is made worse because of it being IPS, being IPS allows the light to "leak" through more. I imagine like IPS, it will require a lot of QC/precise measurements in order to avoid severe halo'ing like the above i.e. a bit like current IPS monitors where generally the cause of bleed is down to the plastic assembly of the monitor being too tightly assembled around the panel etc.

Given how pretty much every recent 21.9 display has been VA, I think it is safe to say that monitor manufacturers are tired of IPS defects i.e. all the returns and is why they are now moving to VA, that and if what gibbo said about putting pressure on them to help with all the returns due to back light bleed means that IPS is no longer a profitable enough investment for them.

Good news with VA being the new go to panel type is that there should be less returns due to little to no backlight bleed (think it is safe to say this was by far the main reason people have returned the last few years of IPS monitors) and therefore gibbo/ocuk won't need to be adding even more gouging on top to cover the CCR restocking fees.

I knew that there would be some halo'ing but I wasn't expecting it to be that bad but for myself, the even worse part was the trail/lag, just looked awful, give me VA's poor transitions with dark objects on bright backgrounds over that any day of the week!

Well, after AMD's ****-poor showing at Computex regarding Vega then I'm out of the AMD game for a few years (til they sort their **** out). So I'll be plumping for one of the new Asus/Acer UW panels to replace the LG if they're good :)

Any news on 29" G-Sync screens? There don't seem to be any as far as I can find.

Nope :(

I think 29" 2560x1080 are a thing of the past now, I put the blame on monitor manufacturers for this as they only push the 34" 1440+ models and they don't even bother sending out review samples of the 29" models to sites/youtubers so even less publicity and unfortunately this will also hinder the up take of 21.9 "overall" as not everyone can/wants to spend big money on the 34" 1440 monitors.

There is a 200HZ 2560x1080 30" acer VA gsync screen but it is like £800 iirc.

That one? From the pictures I'd never guess that was a 21:9 ratio. That's probably why I missed it. I'll have a look at reviews tonight. Though I was hoping for a higher res. I currently have https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lg-2...e-widescreen-led-monitor-black-mo-142-lg.html so not sure this will be worthwhile.

Main reason I don't fancy 34" is that I'd loose screen space for my projector. See spoiler for my set up

Yup that's the one, think ocuk are just using the wrong image.

Unfortunately there are little to no reviews and certainly not any "good" reviews from the likes of pcmonitors or tftcentral, I don't think the panel is particularly good either from any of the user comments I've seen on other forums/reddit, supposedly bad smearing/trailing.

Either way, personally I definitely wouldn't move from that LG 29" monitor you got, just not worthwhile especially considering the price.

I wish Dell would release an updated UW gaming monitor. I'd be all over that in a heartbeat.

If ASUS can't sort out their **** poor CS, the PG35VQ could retail for £800 and IMO it still wouldn't be worth it.

Yeah it would be nice if dell released gaming monitors more often, when they do, they generally knock it out of the park, at least where QC and CS is concerned.

Never had a problem monitor wise with their customer service, its bang on. I've had to RMA 3 monitors. Each time it was picked up and swapped at my door all within a 5 day working week.

There aren't any other brands that do that. I had a fault with my acer monitor. Exact same fault as the Asus and they wouldn't accept it as a fault and I would have had to pay just to get it inspected.

One reasoning I've waited for the new Asus monitor over other brands.

I am really fussy when it comes to this sort of thing. If Asus could offer the same advanced RMA as their server grade products then maybe. Any time spent waiting for a replacement whether it is a few days, or a week = fail. Inspecting something before issuing a replacement says little trust in regards to the end user.

If you want to RMA a motherboard through Asus (3 year warranty) they'll refuse to have anything to do with it and put all liability back on the retailer. If you have a board with a socket which has since been discontinued, good luck trying to find a replacement.

Do asus still replace your monitor with refurbished ones though? To me that is a complete joke especially if the monitor is <1 year old and costs £800+

Have dell changed their method to this as well then?

As I had RMA'd one of my dell u2311h years ago due to uniformity issues and it was a brand new one that they swapped it with.

Pretty sure Dell still replace with a brand new one. They definitely don't repair.

There's a good chance if you're in your third year making a warranty claim you'll get a newer model or revision replacement. Fat chance of that from ASUS lol.

Dell is a bit like EVGA. Head and shoulders above the rest in terms of service.

Is there such a thing as a 3440x1440 monitor for under £500?
Although Im a gamer Ive never been concerned with freesync/gsync and whatnot.

This is what I'm looking for.

After an ultrawide for gaming AND video editing. Therefore prepared to take a hit on no gsync/freesync/high refresh rates for now if I can screen which is reasonably priced.

I'm looking at the dell ultrawides, hoping they drop in price. I'd snap at £500 easily for the build quality + customer service dell offers.

Don't want to edge towards VA due to the fact I want to edit content.

maybe
LG 34UM88C
closer to 600.

Incase I have missed a post about it, but is there a Freesync 34'' 3440x1440 monitor that might be coming out soonish ?? Although I am happy with the Samsung SE790C I have presently I am curious about these Free/G-Sync monitors of late and thinking maybe upgrading. All depending what AMD is coming out with in a couple of months that is, hopefully a big improvement to my Fury-X I am presently using but will see.
