***21.9 Ultrawide Thread***

I'm just worried the colours are not that good on it, I have a BenQ XL2420T 144hz the now so the colours are not exactly good mind haha.

Of course not, the BenQ has a TN panel... TN is notorious for bad colours, although some of the newer ones are better. IPS or VA are always going to be superior though, until OLED does make an appearance, but as Nexus says, I don't anticipate that being until 2020 or so for an actual consumer product. And the price is going to make ultrawides look cheap!

Each panel type has pros and cons, for every TN con, there are IPS cons as well.

Yes but speaking to colours, TN is invariably always going to be bottom of the pile, as it's simply a limitation of the technology. Of course not all are equal though... there are some dreadful IPS panels about, and good TN ones, and good and bad examples even within those. All comes down to the specific monitor in question at the end of the day.

Really want to go ultrawide soon. I am debating between X34A, the AOC AG352UCG 35" and the Samsung LC34F791WQUXEN 34", These monitors are really expensive I find, Is there anything I should wait for in these price ranges? I can wait a couple of months no problem.

The price hasn't changed since the x34a came out if anything its gone up. You won't have any complaints about colour though. My revision 2 version has almost no BLB and overclocks to 100hz no problem

No problem and thanks :)

If it is bleed (no matter where you view the monitor/corner from, it will always show) then like I said, to me that is a fault, mine has no bleed, just the left side of the monitor is a bit more problematic for IPS glow when viewed from the right side on a black/dark screen.

You could always take a video of the monitor and then take a snapshot of the video to show what the monitor is like without the image being over exposed etc.
Just a quick update for you Nexus18 if your interested.:p

I exchanged my monitor for another one as the backlight bleed was a bit excessive. It was in all corners. The new one is better by far with only a bit in the top right corner and it doesn't distract me while the other corners are clear of it.

I have now adjusted to your recommended brightness settings. I use 20 in the day and 10 at night which is perfect for my eyes.

I bought a monitor arm for it so I now have movement without restriction.

I am very happy with this monitor. Ultrawide has the wow factor. I am also very surprised by the overall quality of this display. I have only just took the plastic off after 7 days and it's beautiful. The black level is very good even compared the my Samsung va monitor and so are the colors. I am going to keep this for a while unless a 29 inch 144Hz comes out that doesn't have the drawbacks the current ones do such as low brightness and low ppi etc.....

I sold my Benq 2730Z a few days ago after confirming that I wasn't going to regret it.

Thank you very much Nexus18. You have been a great help.:)

Enjoy

It is a very nice monitor and a great price. Yup, the contrast ratio & black levels are one of the reasons why I chose and still have my LG 29" over other monitors, according to the few reviews there are, they're the highest rated for those 2 areas I've seen for an IPS panel.

It is a shame that LG etc. don't push more 29-31" 2560x1080 21.9 screens with improvements such as 100+HZ, not only would it give people more choice especially for those on a budget or/and not willing to spend £500+ on amonitor but it would help out the 21.9 industry to, especially when you look at the steam survey to see the way things are going:

Ok so I have little to no knowledge about monitors. I've ordered the
AG352UCG and the Z35P and I'm going to see which one I prefer but I have to ask what is the best way to test these monitors other than just sticking on my favorite game and seeing which I feel looks better. Anything to look out for?
Thanks

Interested in how you find them. Interested myself in the z35p mainly because I know how expensive the other 200hz monitors are going to be and 120hz is perfect imo. I could never tell much if any difference beyond this.

For me just look out for things like colour uniformity, ghosting, flickering in games etc.

Tempted to "upgrade" from my 27" Acer Predator XB270HU to this

It the Asus really worth £1100 ?

Imo most certainly not, not when you can get a 55" OLED HDR 4k TV for about £1400 that will obliterate any current LCD monitor, at least where IQ is concerned (only disadvantage of 55" OLED TV is size [if that's an issue], input lag and no sync tech)

Better of getting the cheaper acer, it uses the exact same panel unless you prefer asus, the design or whatever.

I agree with Nexus18.

I recently bought a Acer X34a which has been great for gaming (Gsync and 100hz) and productivity. I got a good one with little bleed and overclocks to 100hz no issues.

However the picture quality isn't a patch on my Samsung KS7000 TV. Imagine what an OLED would look next to it.

Strange thing.... I attempted to attach my X34a to an arm at the weekend and it seems the screws will not tighten in the lower 2 VESA mounting holes. When using the normal stand, the thickness accounts for this and they fasten in quite nicely but I cannot figure out what I am missing, short of actually packing the gap with something- not ideal!

has anyone mounted an X34a?

thanks for the replies.
A 4k 55" screen is out of the running however for the mancave as I don't have the room for it. 34~" may be a bit tight!

I'll stick with the Acer for now, may go 4k next year, depending on what is around.

How about a cheap 24" 16:9 144hz? Rather putting lots of money into a display now, get one that'll tide you over. Or 29" UW but that is about £400

Probably just keep the Acer for now as there's nothing wrong with it just have an upgrade itch.
I am also looking at a new TV for the living room so may invest the money there instead :D

Are you using the metal bracket that comes with the monitor?
