You're going to love it, I couldnt live without mine now and only had it around a week or so. It's an awesome bit of kit.

I can imagine. I noted what you said a few pages back and also (touchwood) i've never had any trouble with any Asus product. It's replacing an 8 year old Acer 24" 1200p thing so i'm due an upgrade.

I've got the grunt to run it with 2 980ti's so I should be able to max everything out on it.

Just dug the i1 display pro out, monitor will be here around midday.

Happy days :)

Thanks for the reply.

I need more. I've always used 120Hz at least. Playing on anything less feels horrible.

Really? Admittedly I have never consistently gamed at around 120 FPS but damned if ever notice any difference after 40FPS with freesync on. Perhaps my eye is 'untrained'. Don't get me wrong, I get a buzz from seeing my rig churning out high FPS rates in games the same as everyone else but I can't help but think that's all it is - the comfort and satisfaction you get from seeing the high numbers as apposed to actually noticing a significant difference to how the game plays? Just my opinion based on my own experiences.

Given the price and performance of the new 1080's I'm thinking of sticking my budget into a new screen and revising the GPU situation next year when the 1080ti comes along.

So I've got a couple of questions if anyone can spare the time to answer. The Asus 34" 1440 widescreen appears to be about as easy to obtain as a pink unicorn and it concerns me that RMA might be at risk if I do eventually get one. Is the X34 the same screen for £200 less? Are X34 owners obtaining 100hz consistently? IPS glow and BLB OK?

Might not be so easy to answer this one: If I'm pulling 100fps with 2560*1440, what will I get with X34?

2560/3440 = ~75fps empirically.

Realistically I'm on 1470/8000 980Ti and getting constant 60fps (Vsync) in Division w/ High pre-set, dropping down to ~50ish if there's heavy smoke etc.

The Division is a very demanding game, and I can run 50-65fps with a High preset except I move shadows up to PCSS and Ambient Occ up to HBAO+ and knock a few non-essentials down to Medium. Seems to work well and still looks damn stunning :)

I'm gonna wait for the big chips to show their faces :D

Here are some of the benchmarks I get with maxed out settings with a Fury X and the X34 which should be similar to your 980Ti:

Rise of the Tomb Raider (antistropic x4, HXAA antiailsing) - 50FPS
Fallout 4 - 67 FPS
Shadow of Mordor - 67 FPS
Grid 2 - 66FPS
Just Cause 3 - 59 FPS
Bioshock Infinite - 83 FPS
HITMAN - 57 FPS

3440x1440 is a fairly demanding res String, but I've found it *easy* in comparison to 4k!!! If you love high FPS then it looks like SLi is your only route, or turn a few non-essentials down :)

man this thing is a monster on my desk. Definately getting some getting used to.

Got a little back light bleed, but doesn;t seem too bad. the potato cam makes it look a lot worse.

I can't notice it at all in games / watching tv

Im looking forward to trying freesync when my monitor arrives tomorrow. I've ordered one of them Acer Predators as thenew Asus is way out of my price range, been using a Asus PB278 for a few years and have really like it but i need to give freesync a go.
