*** 2nd March - Apple Event - Official Thread ***

Used to listen to that podcast all the time but it got pretty boring/predictable after a while.

I rarely do unless it's pre-product announcement.

Once the things are released they go mental and often don't fully grasp the specs until 1 week later which makes me rage. They're meant to be informed persons.

Comparing this to the Xoom and you realise this isn't "revolutionary" or "magical" at all.

- Xoom has 1Gb Ram. iPad2.0 has 512mb
- Xoom has HDMI out. Ipad2.0 has HDMI out
- Xoom has microSDHC
- Xoom has USB2.0
- Xoom has BlueTooth that works on all devices
- Xoom has Stereo Speakers. iPad2.0 has mono

Did i miss something...?

If you want the Xoom, buy one

All you're doing here is trolling the launch thread and annoying people who are interested in the iPad. We get it, you prefer android tablets :p

I'll third that. Unless you must know every single thing that "Pixel Corps" noodles with, I don't know how to stomach that show. The interesting information to length ratio is dismal :p

We can all list out specs. You just happen to have chosen the ones which you think show the iPad 2 in worse light. Infact you seem to be inventing stats too. Has 512mb ram even been confirmed?

How about the Xoom being 33% thicker than the iPad 2 (or is it 50%?!), 125g heavier, The Xoom only has 100 apps designed for it.

Stop trolling and grow up.

A full comparison can be found here: http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/02/ipad-2-vs-motorola-xoom-vs-hp-touchpad-vs-blackberry-playbook/

To all Ipad owners over the last year or so has your Ipad's battery suffered at all ?
Nope and mine gets used at least 4 hours per day every day since launch. I have a Mac Book Pro and since buying the IPAD its probably been switched on twice. The wife loves the IPAD and won't use anything else. The best bit of tech I have ever bought. Highly recommended if you use the net on a regular basis.

The best specced tablet isn't necessarily the best though. It's the one which will provide the best user experience to YOU.

For me it's irrelevant as I have an iPhone and MBA but for everyone else the argument will be totally different.

photoshop whine whine whine. The specs of the iPad 2 are good enough for 2011 and they only tell you half the story. What's the thing like to use, and that's not even with it running iOS 5.

The Xoom:
Crappy screen
Crappy HD video support
SD card reader won't work till a software update
Software update needed for flash
Where's the apps?
Lots of crashes/bugs

Ticks a load of hardware boxes though!!!!

Engadget have posted some video of the iPad 2 in action. It does seem the A5 chip has some grunt to it - http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/02/ipad-2-first-hands-on/

Nice, web browsing looks super fast! Can't wait to see some dedicated games that utilise those twin SGX543s :)

The Xoom:
Crappy screen (not really, just not as good)
Crappy HD video support (Utter BS, the iPad 2 only supports baseline HD too)
SD card reader won't work till a software update (You can't buy it until April)
Software update needed for flash (It'll be available by April, now if you root)
Where's the apps? (The OS is new and you can't buy it until April)
Lots of crashes/bugs (Fair point but the OS is new and you can't buy it until April)

iPad 2 is better than the Xoom in two areas, thickness and gpu performance.

sensible cap/

You've missed the crucial one: range of applications. iPad 2 will have the 65,000 apps already made for the first iPad, plus the impressive-looking new Apple apps like GarageBand and Movie (which will sell enormously well), plus whatever new apps are created to take advantage of the iP2's processing power.

The Xoom, as yet, has practically nothing of note. I'm sure the situation will have improved by April, but it still won't have 10% as many decent apps as the iPad does.

Apps are what sells tablets, not microSDHC or 1GB of RAM. Most people don't really care about specs. How many non-geeks know how much RAM is in their PC, let alone their tablet?

The iPad is quite restrictive about formats though so it's unlikely users will encounter poor playback. The Xoom has all this 'play all your HD video!' advertising and given control over codecs/compression is more lax, means people are more likely to say, load their HD camcorder footage onto the device then wonder why it's so choppy.

You know, I fear what we may end up seeing, is two tiers of cpu or gpu intensive programs. I.e. those which can only take advantage of the iPad 2s power compared to that of the that of the first iPad.
