30-70 thread

hehe, had a play in the celica today, and its hoofing it down. Needless to say its pointless, but gave it a go anyway!

1st attempt 2nd gear, planted it and left it there. Realised the rev limiter steps 8.5k rpm, which gives a GPS speed of about (apporx) 67mph. Gutted! So a gear change was neccessary, but in the wet, its pointless! Traction controll is struggling before i hit lift, so when 6k rpm comes around, and the cam changes TC just cant cope. Turn TC off, and as you'd imagine, you make NO progress at all hehe the joys.

Wait for a dry day - in the wet, from a recording and with all the traction probs, i was getting mid 7s. COuld get that sub 7 no worries, maybe, mid 6s.

I can't do a standard time for mine now as it's booked in for a remap at jabba tomorrow. Bummer. I will have to do a remapped time. I won't be able to compare before and after times which would have been interesting...

The only way this thread will have any meaning is if all the runs are done at the same place with the same timing gear. Or we uses book figures.

Using videos with inaccurate speedos or downhill bits of road is pointless especially when dealing with such little variances between the times.

My 2p.

i dont think most people are being competitive, just sharing their experiences. At least those were my views anyway

Hi there

Just had another go, but did it a little different this time. Instead I used 3rd, the roads were wet so fed the throttle in a little, but still its very quick. Also remember my car has very tall gearing and hence my 3rd is more like 4th on most other cars due to the near 130mph top speed 3rd can give. :)

I make that circa 4.8s :D
Quite impressed because thats pickup from 1500rpm !

Shall try again in the dry and also do one in 4th too. :)

My car has just gained 30 or 40 ponies this morning so I will give this a try when it's dry. Hopefully I can beat the "book" time of 6.3 seconds. :D

How have you found it since its been done?

At first I found it more laggy and a bit quicker. But it seems to be sorting itself out because after the 50 mile drive back (varied roads) the lag has almost gone and it's pulling hard and cleanly from 2500rpm to about 7000rpm.

It seems like I have lost some torque below 2000rpm which I am not happy about really. But I will let it all settle down for a few days before passing judgement. I think I have to let the ecu tweak itself to the new map for a while. So we will see...!

Very odd, as soon as mine was done it was like a rocket in comparison.

Hmm very interesting. Definately the bhp is much higher, but i'm dissapoint by the apparent lag and lack or torque below 2k. Hopefully this will improve. I will let you know (and Jabba!).

If you go to a RR day or a meet let me know and I will come along to compare.

How much faster does it seem? Did you get the custom map?

I've just been out in it on my own for the first time. And it was nipping on pretty nicely. It does seem quite a bit faster, deffinately over 200 bhp from my ass dyno. It was not the custom map, I only got the generic one.

30 - 70 is in 6 seconds now which isn't to be sniffed at I suppose. 30 - 70 in 6 seconds.

It seems to get better evertime I drive it. I will do another video if it's dry tomorrow to see if I can top 6 seconds.

I just gave it a go and ended up with somewhere between 5-6 seconds It was pouring down with rain so started off in third instead of second. My first go in third the traction control was kicking in so would go faster in the dry.

Here's the worlds worst video :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5WZcbiZrYs

Haha, and I thought my video was bad. :D

I'm suprised that your TC light was coming on in 3rd? Mine didn't even come on in 2nd and I can't be too far off your power with the remap!

Does your gearbox make 70mph in 2nd... mine does, just, at about 7000rpm.

I will be interested to see your results in the dry. Preferably with a different camera. ;) :p

There is probaly no more lag than standard however now you have a lot more torque after 2k it feels more laggy.

The Cupra R won't even make a true 60mph in 2nd (gps 58 on the limiter) as it has a 6 speed box compared to the VRSs 5 speed. A lot of people who put big turbo kits on Golfs/Leons etc think the 5 speed box offers better ratios for 1/4 miles and the like.
