30-70 thread

I think most of the motors forum will miss it as well it had such presence at meets and was always a convasation piece people gathering round just to get a glimpse of it.

You decided on a replacement yet M3 CSL, Z06?

Hi there

Still very much undecided, I had a plan and the CSL threw a spanner into the works. :D

Aw man my times kinda shameful. Gonna have another go somewhere else tomorrow I think. That sliproads on an upwards bank and i was busy so i had to be careful with lanes.

Gonna try again on a flat road and not go for 4th gear tomorrow, hopefully get it down a little bit.

Gibbo, would the Z06 have a faster 30-70 in 2nd than the 'Stang?

Hi there

The Z06 is a little quicker from a standstill to 100mph and far far quicker past 100mph. Z06 has posted as low at 3.6s 0-60mph and 7.5s for 0-100mph from a stock car. The quickest 1/4 mile time for a stock car is also 10.8s, only mod was drag tyres I think, wheras Z06's on street tyres with good drivers see 11.4-12s, again driver dependent. They are incredibly quick cars, the combination of a 512BHP engine, huge displacement so loads of torque but only weighing 1417kg makes it a very fast combo. :)

Gotta remember the Z06 is quite a beast, its as quick as a Mclaren SLR and quicker than the new 911 Turbo.

However on this kind of test its hard to say because the Z06's gearing might not help. You see in a Z06 1st gear gets you to 60mph and 2nd gear is about 93mph. Obviously 30-60mph is quicker in the Z06 if you use 1st gear but changing up to 2nd will hurt the time a bit. Then if you just use 2nd for this test your gonna be starting from low revs.

I'd say a Z06 doing this test in 2nd gear would match the Mustang. Fit a CAI kit to the Z06 and re-tune to UK fuel then its gonna beat the Mustang on this test even when just using its second gear.

From my Z06 experience it has a little more grunt at sub 100mph than the Mustang but is hugely quicker than the Stang past 100mph. In fact the Z06 felt supercharged because it had no flat spots and picked up very well from any rpm even in higher gears, but thats 7.0l engine for you. :)

The car I would like to see go against my Mustang would be the 911 Turbo of Spies. I know he would have me from a standstill with his AWD traction but I reckon from a roll of about 30mph upto 120mph there would be nothing in it, but obviously at speeds past 130mph the Porsche would be quicker due to far superior aero-dynamics. :)

Excellent :)

Seriously hope you get this as your next car :D - Partly due to the fact I'll probably never own or drive one and want a passenger ride :p

Pants / 2001 Octavia vRS / 6.3 seconds 30 to 70

From Autocar published on 16th May 2001.

0-60 - 6.7secs
0-100 -16.7secs
30-70 -6.3secs
Top Seppd 144mph

I will test this with my actual car when I can and post the video...

WTF @ a Civic Type R doing 5 seconds.

We really need to ban silly times counted in peoples heads using inaccurate speedos otherwise this list will be daft.

It does have a star by it implying 'temporary' time......Waiting on a video for that one :)

HI there

The guy posted a video, it does indeed do it in 5 seconds. :)

A Civic Type R is not slow when you drive them how they are supposed to be driven. At the end of the day they have got 200BHP and are not particular heavy at all. :)

Hi there

Nothing silly about the time, he posted a video clip, even if his speedo is overreading its still sub 5.5s. Type R's are quick cars when driven properly. :)

Hell, who cares, at least it gives a rough comparison - you can't expect the world when most people don't have access to decent timing gear and various other logistics :) It all seems relatively approximate, at the moment...

Something to do on a quiet evening and at least it makes for interesting banter! :)

A video of 30-70 on the speedo. In reality, he probably was only doing about 65 at the end of the Video.

Hi there

Well we are not to know this. If he has a GPS then maybe he can help verify, but either way even if it is 5mph out the time is still gone be circa 5.5s

This thread was made and originally pointed out that everyone would respect speedo's can be out.

I will post a video clip of my BMW next week and I know for sure its gonna do far better than it actually is. Because 60mph indicated is actually about 54-56mph GPS in that thing. Still thats an old BMW with 200,000 miles on the clock so hence no doubt why its out so much.

Certain cars like my Mustang you can get the speedo spot on, I think the S2000 and Porsches are also the same. In fact I would imagine most modern cars now have near perfect speedo's or can be calibrated to be so. Slackworths 130i is pretty much spot on too.

As already pointed out this thread gives a rough idea, its not going to be pinpoint accurate but it creates some friendly banter and gives people an idea of the acceleration of different cars. :)

Both my Astras were out by a few MPH, but the Saab is pretty much bang on going via GPS/Road Angel - Mum's Merc is well out though.

Yes we are, we should know this simply by the fact that Civic Type R's are not almost as quick as a BMW Z4M or a single tenth of a second off the pace of a Lotus Elise.
