Relevance to the performance of a Civic Type-R v a Lotus Elise or a BMW Z4M?
The Z4M is what, 1400kg and 330bhp? Quite an advantage over a Civic Type R. You'd think it'd more than 0.4 seconds faster over the 30-70, wouldn't you
When a CTR is firmly in its powerband i can't see why you think your 530i is going to be drastically faster? Its clear you don't like the sound they make or the whole "vtec thing" but they certainly do shift. I've nothing invested in this as i don't own either vehicle (yet!) but its common sense surely.
The Type R has a high peak power figure at a very high RPM - it does not pull close to this power over the majority of its rev range.
IMO a lot of cars will pull a pretty similar time from 30-70.
Generally speaking, a car's 30-70 time will be within 0.5 to 1 second of its 0-60 time - check the published, accurate figures available for numerous cars and you will find this to be the case. I have difficulty believing the Type R is capable of covering 30-70 in anything less than 6 seconds - it's probably somewhere between 6 and 7 seconds.
Lets look at few examples with verified, accurate data..
Porsche 911 Carerra 2: 0-60 4.6 seconds, 30-70 3.8 seconds
Peugeot 306 GTi-6: 0-60 7.9 seconds, 30-70 7.4 seconds
TVR Sagaras: 0-60 3.9 seconds, 30-70 3.0 seconds
Nissan Skyline R34 GT-5: 0-60 5 seconds, 30-70 4.7 seconds
BMW M5 E39: 0-60 5.3 seconds, 30-70 5 seconds
And the most interesting one, the car whose performance I would expect the Type R to be closest to..
VW Golf GTI MK5: 0-60 6.7 seconds, 30-70 6.3 seconds
Or what about the Astra VXR, a car everyone accepts doesn't handle but has absolutely ridiculously quick straightline performance for a hot hatch?
VX Astra VXR: 0-60 6.4 seconds, 30-70 5.7 seconds.
Whats this? Nowhere near as quick as a the Civic? How strange..
So, as we can see, 30-70 times all within a seconds difference of the 0-60 time. Furthermore, we can see a BMW M5 will cover 30-70 in 5 seconds dead. And we are supposed to believe a Civic Type R will as well? Oh do come off it.
You might say what does this matter, its not a competition. Well no, it isn't. But whats the point in a table if its going to be allowed to contain highly inaccurate figures? It becomes worthless becuase it's useless for any purpose becuase the figures are inaccurate.
Going by these figures for example, a Civic Type-R would murder Matteh's Clio 16v. In the real world, side by side, I bet it wouldn't.
