30-70 thread

Haha, and I thought my video was bad. :D

I'm suprised that your TC light was coming on in 3rd? Mine didn't even come on in 2nd and I can't be too far off your power with the remap!

Does your gearbox make 70mph in 2nd... mine does, just, at about 7000rpm.

I will be interested to see your results in the dry. Preferably with a different camera. ;) :p

The surface wasn't very good and was pouring with rain at the time. 2nd tops out just under 60. I'll have to try again if it ever stops raining.

I had a go earlier, was pouring with rain but I doubt it'll affect the time that much. Was about 6s (using the good ol speedo), I'd put the video up but it's of such low quality it hardly seems worth it, clio 197 btw.

Well I had a wee go yesterday and didnt do so well ;)

Really need to give a little clutch kick to induce a bit of spool but it was seriously wet so that just sent me sideways as normal ;) also had to drop .3bar off to stop it spinning up as it peaked in 2nd.

Anyway, here's my (wet) effort @ 1.1bar

Not terribly impressed, quite annoyed actually... will give it another crack in the dry :p

Its the MK2 so a 2L TFSI with a remap and exhaust you are talking 270bhp ish and over 300lbft so looks about right to me.

How? There are some 500bhp cars out there that don't do it that fast.

Its 5 seconds started accelarting at 11secs stops at 16secs he also started past 30mph so not really a 30-70, standard a few have been GPS timed at 5.6 some around 6. I think from a almost 40% power increase taking .6 to a second off the 30-70 time is possible.

The 2LTFSi and gearing make for quick midrange, they run out of puff high up though. Heres a remapped one just nailing it in 3rd http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=js_cJItLcL0

Have to agree with Tommy tbh, faster than Gibbo's 'stang ;)

HI there

I used the same timing method as on mine and that comes out as 3.6s (close to 1s slower than the Stang) and plus the fact he starts from around 35mph too and agreed how steep is the hill because I very much doubt a sub 300BHP car is that quick unless it is lightweight. If they are that quick from a remap then I'd say they were a relative performance bargain. :)
Though I'd imagine they start running out of puff once in 4th.

Exactly. I doubt Spie's 911 Turbo even does it that fast and that thing is faster than Jesus.

HI there

I would hope Spies Porka does it that fast or he gonna be quite of the Stangs pace and in all honesty I'd say the Stang and Porka on a 2nd gear bash would be very similar with the scales every so slightly tipping into the Stangs favour due to less weight and more horse power.

Mine does it in circa 2.75s, that car is doing it in 3.6s but is starting from 35mph, so its most likely to be circa 4s actually and I'd expect Spies Porka to be pretty level with mine and hence a sub 3s time. :)

My mistake I was timing it as 5 seconds as he won't be doing 70 until the speedo hits 75 which is around what a remapped one will do. They do run out of puff towards the end of 4th. The bigger turbo'd ones in a ED30/S3/Cupra pull a lot better after 6k and keep the urge going into 5th gear.

Hi there

Well I stopped timing at 70mph. I timed from the point where he starts accelerating which is 35mph and stopped at 70mph which is 3.6s. So base if he had actually started at 30mph and if his speedo is out and therefor stopping at 75mph would no doubt make yourself correct at no doubt 5s or a fraction under.

I'd love to see a drag race between those two.

Do you know where he has been recently? I'm still waiting for those interior pics he promised several weeks back :p

Here are some interesting and accurate times for you all:

Renault Clio Williams: 6.9 seconds
Lancia Delta Integrale: 6.8 seconds
Honda NSX 3.0: 4.9 seconds (pfft, better off with a Civic eh ;))
Ferrari F355: 3.8 seconds
E30 BMW M3: 6.7 seconds
E39 BMW 528i SE: 6.5 seconds
Ford Escort RS2000 Mk2: 9.4 seconds
Triumph Dolomite Sprint: 9.0 seconds
Peugeot 205 GTi 1.6: 8.5 seconds
Toyota Supra Mk4 Twin Turbo: 4.7 seconds
Lotus Carlton: 3.8 seconds (omfg thats quick)
Porsche 911 Turbo 996: 3.4 seconds

Oh and...

Honda Civic Type-R: 6.0 seconds

Not a mobile phone or stopwatch in sight - all times with pro timing gear, on cars less than 6 months old/5000 miles on the clock and accurate.
