3080 / 3090 / 3070 Gigabyte Eagle Gaming OC & Vision Power Connector Concerns

Unfortunately wrong, at least in Germany which should be EU regulation. As long as you return all parts completely the dealer/service cannot reject warranty. But never mind getting some good plugs and fit them looks like best solution for me.

Just send the card back and get a full refund.
less said about it the better ...but you have posted here and you will have most likely given you serial to gigabyte now so they may be aware of this cards history.

Lets be clear here THIS is Gigiabytes fault problem from the start and why i am stating send it back

now i do not agree with you pulling it apart and then breaking it.

What have you done to break it .please explain ??

If nothing as burned up on the board and you have not physically damaged it in any way then all is good ..

Put it back together as it was and just send it back..

This is a common and well known issue. For gigabyte to void warranty based on this is wrong on so many levels and wont get them the publicity they want.

The plugs/wiring are all easily accessable without special tools and without damaging other parts. Assuming nothing other than the plugs/cables are touched then its not worth the headache for gigabyte surely. If gigabyte didn't want people trying to help them by repairing themselves then they should have made the product better in the first place ;)

Lets face it. The repair is not rocket science. ANY competent person could do it. Gigabyte should be giving owners the option to have the required parts shipped out to them and save themselves the costs of 2 way courier.

The problem i am aware of is to get to the connector block the whole heat sink as to come off ..now for most with experience not a problem but having the end user who may not be wise to this deal with maybe broken heat pads and cleaning off old thermal paste and reapplying new paste will be a minefield for most users.

Which then could lead to far worse problems than say just the power connector box going forward .

Agree with you though they should have made the product better and this should not have slipped out into the wild.

yeah it is ridiculous that they shipped the product in this way - makes me wonder what other things on the card they skimped on and may fail in the future!!!!!!!!!

I suspect the PCB design is fine from what i have seen already. but whoever came up with the idea to use this connector box and not have the power connector soldered to the PCB well enough said really..

But you can tell they decided they did not want the power cables coming out of the middle of the card and went for this option.
Just not a very good design option to begin with.

Glad you guys in the U.K. are getting taken care of with the help from @GIGA-Man, but if you're in the U.S., just know the customer support so far has been abysmal from Gigabyte. Yesterday I was waiting 45 min and not a single person answered, so I left a message (this is early in the morning, mind you) and never got a call back the remainder of the day. I tried calling again right when they opened for calls this morning at 11:30am est and waited nearly 30 min before giving up and just writing an email instead (which will of course make this whole thing longer). As a first time Gigabyte buyer, what a lousy start. If I had the option to choose a card at this point, it would've been any EVGA model just so I don't have to go through this process.

That's not good sorry to hear this

If it was me that had to go through this i would throw the towel in and send the card back to where you bought it from and get a full refund..then just wait until the dust settles even see what AMD have to offer as where so close now .

Either way hope you get something resolved

Same issue here. I live in India and got the Eagle 3080 from a retailer. I talked to the regional gigabyte head and he has asked me to take it to the local Gigabyte service center.

One connector block looks ok (for the moment atleast)

The other one has pins bent/pushed back such that i cant fit my connector from the PSU

Here's the thing, i dont want to get it temporarily working with tweezers with the guys from the service center. I can do that myself. Id rather get it replaced with one from WK39 onwards and be assured that i havent bought a faulty GPU. Anyone here know how i can contact the right person for this? no one here seems to have a clue, given the supply is so low.

Maybe ask @GIGA-Man for a contact in your region maybe he might be able to help

They are the unlucky ones imo. This is a major design flaw and lack of proper contact even in one of the pins can lead to serious long term damage. Iam surprised they havent issued a call back for all GPUs before WK29.

agree with you there

In Germany the whole RMA took only 3 days with excellent communication. I am impressed.

that was quick enjoy your card

I think I've asked this before, but for now, does anybody know how one would even be able to tell if any of their pins is pushed back without unplugging the power cables? Would my computer blue screen or something if I were playing a game that caused my GPU to draw too much power or something?

Kind of counting on being able to acquire another 3080 to replace this one while it's out for RMA and wondering if something bad might happen with this one later down the line even if I don't touch anything.

Played a decent amount of Modern Warfare over the weekend which caused the 3080 to draw maybe 300W on average. Didn't notice any problems. I think the Gaming OC is rated at 350W, but I don't think I've played anything that would draw that much.

Yuuup. Absolutely ridiculous how this is being handled outside of the UK.

What WK is your card??..if its working i would carry on using and once all the dust settles then RMA later and get on the new connector block.

37 and the leftmost 8 pin socket was difficult to plug my 6+2 power cable into.

Guaranteed my card's one of the bad ones. I just don't know if when I finally got the power cable plugged into it whether or not everything actually connected alright. Haven't touched anything since I put the card in my case about a month ago and everything's been fine.

It's just everybody I get ahold of in the US doesn't acknowledge the issue and wants me to pay for shipping it to them which seems ridiculous considering this issue should've resulted in a recall. Also been hesitant about sending it back because I'll be without a card for 3 weeks or however long it takes them to get it back to me, and if they're not acknowledging the issue now, I dunno if they'll acknowledge it whenever it gets to them and they take a look at it.

Re support i would keep hounding them..i am more than certain the whole of gigabyte are aware of this issue by now surly..me thinks some of there divisions are playing it down over this issue

Provide links to them showing this forum as one of there reps is here dealing with it..

You should not have to pay for any postage to them if anything they should be bending over backwards sorting this out for you ..you paid a lot of money for your card and to have this defect from new is not on at all ..

I am not impressed at all how this as been dealt with via Gigabyte globally ..however GIGA-man as been very helpful here.

I hope you get it sorted

Update :

So took mine to the local gigabyte service center. The idiot over there was saying they cant give me a RMA as this looks like physical damage. Then found out another rep in India who was helpful (like Giga man). Finally got the RMA number from the service center. Then i get a call sometime back from Gigabyte saying they dont have the component needed to replace the connector block in India (isnt it like a 1 dollar cable ?) Also they told me they cant issue a replacement for now since there are no stocks. So they are issuing me a credit note and a full refund for my purchase.

Iam just going to get the refund and wait for a bit. This is such a botched launch by Nvidia and Gigabyte. I spent nearly Rs 91,000 on the GPU which is around 1235 USD (coz of customs, etc) and they make me run around. The worst part is that outside the UK, this issue is unknown to most retailers. For those who are looking to get this card, id suggest going for another brand (preferably Asus). Also before you buy the GPU, google " issues with that brand/GPU" and browse through diff forums before buying. Had i done that, would have saved a lot of time/effort. Gigabyte has screwed up the RTX 3080 experience for me.

Good move

Hi, just picked up my Gigabyte 3080 Gaming OC today with a serial number starting with 2042. This one had the old power connectors and of course couldn't be plugged in at all. It's a bit odd considering it definitely should have the new ones?

Wk 42 and at fault that is odd . Do the cable's have heatshrink on ?

@GIGA-Man any idea what is going on here ?

Apologies for the late response. Yes, they're both the same and start with 2042. I have gotten it plugged in and it does seem stable, will consider a RMA at a later point though to get the improved connectors.

Yes i would RMA it later. Once all the dust settles

However i am concerned why a WK42 as the faulty block ..its not good at all ..hopefully GIGA-man will shed some light on this.

Anyone who's unhappy with the gigabyte products, you have consumer law protecting your purchase, return your card and get different brand, stop venting here, no one is interested. Take your frustration out on GB Twitter.

Agree with re consumer laws and peeps should vent on GB twitter ect.

But i have to disagree with you saying no one is interested in peeps venting here ...i am interesting and its a place where peeps can vent and share there bad experiences there having with such a poor product design that gigabyte have allowed to pass.

Its place where there is a active Gigabyte rep so there is that at least.

It looks like wk42 has the older connector?

Not good me going to update the OP me thinks thx for sharing this

@GIGA-Man any idea what is going on here this is now the 2nd report of this happening ?

*to add... it could be still on the new connector block as the heatshrink wrap may have not been used.
GIGA-man stated this could happen ..how ever this does not help really as how do you know for certain your on the new block.

thought the heatshrink was only on repaired ones, with newer cards being produced not being shrink wrapped

I am not sure its all rather confusing atm. Waiting on @GIGA-Man to clear things up.

*To add

Thx for the update... @GIGA-Man so are we 100% certain that if you have heat-shrink on your card that the user can see in the gap.

Then it is the new connector block type if so i will update the OP with this info as this will help peeps ..and does this apply to all the cards with the blocks ?

GIGA-Man said
Currently yes, all the new connectors have this. My only worry is in future, even though the new connectors currently have the shrink rap, if there is no shrink rap it could confuse people.

I'm not particularly knowledgeable with this sort of thing. Here's what it looks like.

Not sure. The basic gist of it is that the right connector works fine, the PCIE cable slots right in. The left hand connector doesn't fully connect with the cable, even if I push it in with extra force. So the connection isn't complete, and so the monitor display can go black if the cable is just tapped.

Not good to hear this ..if its not plugged in correctly then i would advise not using it. maybe try another Pci-e power cable if you have one or another psu ..other than that if you can not get a secure fit then you will need to RMA it .

I've been using a a wk 37 for about a month, I haven't had an issue yet. I've also checked my psu cables and no indicators of burn. I wonder if that picture of the burned cable was false.

It just sucks knowing that you paid so much money only to have something that can easily cripple it.

Yeah that was hit and run with that user ..it needed more investigating on that. but stuff like that can happen if the connections are not firm and secure
