30xx Series Founders Edition

I wouldn't blame buyers either since we've all been indoors for a year.

I would absolutely blame the buyers.

There are far more productive things you can do with your time, even in full lockdown.

Maxing out a gaming PC is the definition a first world middle class problem. Particularly when your old one still works…

You're saying that on an enthusiast forum. Buyers couldn't care less about a class problem lol  gimme a break...

So you've never purchased anything if your 'old one' still works? Never bought a new car / house / fridge / microwave / T.V etc?

I never said they did care, hence why they are willing to pay….

Erm.. there’s a huge difference between buying a luxury good a ‘normal’ price compared to paying nearly 3x the price from a scalper because you ‘must’ have it and can’t hold your water on a 1080 or 2080ti

If you can’t recognise that then this conversation isn’t for you.

People have just gone into full FOMO mode.

I don't even see what PC games people are actually desperate to play. Any game that's decent has been out ages anyway. There are very few new releases that require a high end gpu to enjoy.

People have lost touch with reality and have some huge sense of entitlement. These are luxury items, not essentials. If Ferrari said there was a 20 month lead time on a car people would be like "yeah no bother heres my deposit" But with a graphics card people are cacking their pants over the prospect of waiting a few months (at the tail end of a pandemic in when the weather is getting nice!).

Oh yes, I couldn’t agree more. Full on FOMo for nothing new to actually play that needs it.

Do you remember all the post from people saying they NEED to upgrade for cyber punk. I remember posting in this or another GPU thread to say it will probably be bad after all the hype and look how that turned out. Those posts instantly stopped the day of release.

If you're stuck at home for a year then paying £800, £1k more for a top-end gfx card is fair game to me considering the extra frames this generation. I understand it and I likely would have ended up doing it myself if discord hadn't worked out within say 2-3 months of trying.
You get the same increase in frames pretty much every generation 1080ti > 2080ti > 3080ti is around 35% for each generation, the difference this time around was the 3080 was around 25% faster than than the 2080ti compared to a the 2080 which was only 5~10% faster than a gtx 1080ti.

Capitalism is one thing.
If someone like me who bought a 3090 back in January wants to sell their card for £2400 I say fill your boots, why the hell not?
People who are buying these from Nvidia whenever they drop with the explicit desire to sell for a lot more than msrp are disgusting. They are basically taking a card from somebody who could have afforded in their rig budget and making it so they cant get it for their own selfishness and greed. Scum.

So, what you're saying is they should buy it for RRP, use it a bit then sell it for a profit and they're good?

I think what he means is buying with the intention to use and then deciding to sell it later because the price has increased or you got bored of it etc is a bit different from buying with the sole intention to sell right away.

Minecraft ray traced. 2 FPS on 1080 Ti.

Anything ray traced.

Turn off ray tracing…

Ray tracing doesn’t make a game good, it’s only got potential to make an already good game prettier but most of the time the actual impact is tiny and in reality is makes zero impact on your actual enjoyment of the game.

The whole normal point of enthusiasts and gaming is to be able to turn all the settings to max.

And I would like to be able to play with RTX on thanks, stop trying to tell me how to play my games.
