It's still a pretty huge premium for a 'nice to have' feature that will probably be common on far cheaper players (that aren't complete junk like the LG) in several months, when far more DV content should also be available.
I've purchased the Panasonic UB390 for £130. It's very good and I'll flog it next year for any decent DV player that is less than £300.
The picture and audio output from any player that isn't doing something wrong will be identical (save for DV). The UB390, which is the well-reviewed UB400 but without Wi-Fi, isn't totally silent in operation but it is close enough that I wouldn't pay significantly extra (let alone £500) to eliminate the noise. DV does look good but it is similarly not worth x4 the cost to me at a point when there is almost no content. As much as I'm all for cheaper tech. I can't see a £130 4k player being any good atm
we have discussed this before ?The picture and audio output from any player that isn't doing something wrong will be identical
Morrisons actually had one 4k title in this week. War for the Planet of the Apes.
so what will the new features be - hdmi 2.1 ?
but more worrying new products often have inferior technical capabilities/robustness versus predecessors so maybe worthwhile getting that ub[47]00 (ymmmv) now.
eg panasonic tvs dx750>ex700, samsung ks7000>mu7000 (recently understood philips tv's now made in India)
Oppo products may, I agree, manintain their build quality, they probably cannot exploit economies of scale, like the majors.
Its a worry to think that DVD still outs sells Blu Ray 3-1
i just want a sony deck with comparable audio and video performance with dolby vision for £400 or less.
