*** 4K Player Thread ***

I can't stand Apple so would not buy the box.The streamed 4k content I have is from Netflix which I know is 15mb/s so same as Apple TV. Its okay and I am quite happy to watch the odd film I would never buy as a disc and I watch all the 4k Marvel stuff but I can tell the difference when I put on a disc. I can even tell the difference between Force Awakes streamed v bluray. I just prefer films on disc. The sounds is a big one for me too since I upgraded my speakers I can really tell the difference when I see a 4k 5.1 film against a 4k Dolby Atmos/Dolby True HD/DTS HD. It may be more expensive on disc but I am picky over what I buy on disc. If I want to see a film but not buy the disc I`m still happy seeing it streamed HD. Just my personal preference.

Streamed 4k movies to me, and this is just my personal opinion so dont hate me but its a bit like having a 1080ti and your monitor is only 1080p 144mhz. You know what you are getting is smooth and looks good but there is still that nagging feeling you are missing out and should really be 1440p 144mhz. A bit like wanting a 1080ti but you have to settle for a 1070 as you really cant afford the 1080ti.

Full Fat disc is better.

anyone else having problems with the new 4k Interstellar disc - my Samsung player just says "does not meet the specifications" ?

Ive got about 50 other 4k discs, which don't appear to have any problems (incl The Prestige and a few other recent releases)

BD-Live settings don't appear to have any effect on this (and as I don't have a usb stick attached there is no other disc info stored - certainly wont let me delete anything as google results on similar issues indicate)

It plays ok on my UB900. Maybe there is a update for your player?

Bought the OLED B7 and absolutely love it. I'm stuck whether to get the apple 4k, a BR player or an Xbox.. it's a shame the Nvidia shield doesn't have a service like the apple streaming else I'd use that.

Get the Apple 4K box i love mine and have built a nice collection of 4k movies while saving lots of £££ than if i had bought them all on UHD.

I have Blade Runner 2049, Early release, plays 4K through iTunes. :)
I’ve picked up and set up my Apple TV 4K. Can I ask how you managed to do this? From what I understand I need an US iTunes account and redeem from there? Is it automatically upgraded to 4K?

I watched Dunkirk 4K yesterday(full fat). Awesome :)

It undoubtedly looks and sounds fantastic, but I have to admit I didn't think it was that good a film (I'm not a huge war film fan admittedly, have about 10-15 out of 700 films are true war films ie not science fiction etc)

UHD does look incredible though

Comments on the Interstellar 4k release? Just ordered the bluray, hopefully they don't deliver it to my uni address...

My Sammy got an update to 1013 firmware on Xmas Eve.

Got the Dark Knight for Xmas in the box set so will give it a try.

edit: given it a try DK 4k works fine for me no probs.

Thank you for that but in one sense that's even stranger as Ive just confirmed that I'm on 1013 already (I couldn't remember exactly, but it was updated in the last few days)

I still cant play WestWorld S1, The Dark Knight or Interstellar (the latter two don't even start playing, saying they don't conform to the standards)

the K8500 wants to play Westworld but its impossible to get it to run smoothly(not dissimilar to a stream that isn't running fast enough)

Interestingly on My Xbox One S - the two Nolan discs play perfectly (only tried the first minute or so of each but so far it looks brilliant)
Westworld looks / sounds slightly better on the One S but still totally unwatchable

I'm just relieved that its definitely a firmware issue , even though I was really looking forward to watching WW over Xmas / New Year

Still very strange how you are able to play TDK totally ok but on the same firmware its totally unplayable here.

Contacted Samsung support?

Gonna borrow my brother Xbox to play this, hopefully it doesn't run into any issues
I was going to do this at work today, but unfortunately Samsung insist on a serial number before even logging the call - but now I have it confirmed its a firmware issue I'm slightly more relaxed about it
