4k Ultrawide Gsync 120Hz+ or OLED TV alternative

Was also looking to buy the Oled C7 for £1349 and use it for my PC with the 120hz @ 1080p...for gaming..... But then I read about the HDMI 2.1 that can do 120hz@4k with dynamic HDR, low input lag, and VRR which is basically gsync/free sync for tvs... And thought I would wait till the Jan CES to see what's announced From LG.... Only problem will be we would need graphics card's that are HDMI 2.1 https://media.giphy.com/media/k61nOBRRBMxva/giphy.gif

4k 120hz is still a way off yet. The next Ti won't manage it comfortably.

I agree with what nexus says if you want the best experience you can have not much point in waiting. Especially when you will need a new card for the new ones anyway if they support all these features.

Although I can't see why there won't be dp 1.4 to hdmi 2.1 adapters. As nvidias current lineup supports dp 1.4.

With regards to g-sync it's not all that bad without it, especially at low refresh. Just ensure your settings are adjusted to hit 60fps as constant as you would like. 40fps gsync is still 40fps after all. The drops are still noticeable.

Plus, from a distance 60hz feels a lot like 120hz anyway. Only if your sat 2ft in front of the screen would it be a problem, if your not a fan of 60hz.

Now to get this setup :D

All set up and wow is all I can right now @Nexus18 absolutely stunning mate. Sat on assassins creed origins and it just looks beautiful. HDR enabled 4k 60hz locked and smooth as butter.

Greens, yellows everything just popping out everywhere. A million % better than any monitor to date for sure!

Really need to get some pictures later on.

The black level and contrast is just insane. In a tunnel on creed and Christ almighty does it look good. Nothing but black and colours, no bleed not a thing.

Can't wait to try so many games on it!

Really going to need to drag my old 27" 1080p monitor out as a secondary though.

@Nexus18 - Any setup tips or adjustments that I may need out of the box mate? All set as standard at the minute.

:D

Pretty much what I posted here:

https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/threads/4k-ultrawide-gsync-120hz.18745012/page-2#post-31417369

ISF dark and ISF bright room the best ones. Set your OLED light to whatever you find comfortable brightness wise and adjust the brightness so that blacks can be seen at the required levels, use the following mp4 for that:

Every panel varies so there is no point me giving my settings.

@tyler_jrb where did you buy and for how much?

Was £1599 (55c7v) from currys but can be had cheaper elsewhere. Bought from there as I could get same day delivery where it was a struggle to get elsewhere.

Other places like very, Peter Jackson, John Lewis sell them too.

Much like nexus says, you won't regret it one bit just a sheer awesome no compromise panel.

No monitor comes anywhere near it. And I've had pretty much everything at this point :D.

Thanks for the above info, will have a run through it later after I've had a bite to eat.

:D :p I know you did and I'm so happy you did at the same time.

Why have I been messing with these, let's be frank garbage monitors the past 6-12 months when I could have had this haha.

Just a thing of beauty though. Pretty much sums me up at the minute :D

Lol :D

Now go and look at some 4k wallpapers from interfacelift and enjoy the view from that "window" of yours ;) :D :p

And yup that is why I m always mesmerised by people who are happy spending £700+ on monitors, just makes no sense :o (unless size is an issue....) when you can get a better TV for either cheaper, same or slightly more.

Here's a quick pic. Doesn't do it justice though just stunning in person.

:D best purchase I think I have ever made :p.

Can just relax and enjoy now. With my new window :D. No issues at all and it was just so exhausting going through monitors and every one having an issue I'd "have to deal with".

The monitors like my recent one were £1000 :o. And comparing it to this panel is like comparing a Shopping trolley to a bugatti :D

I'm starting to get really tempted here, but I'm concerned at going back to 60Hz as I'm really sensitive to it. I'd be pairing this with my X34a and would use it for gaming with gamepad and for movies etc.. I'd still use the X34a for K&M and general PC use.

It just seems a lot of cash... I'll need to get to see one in the flesh. :)

^^

You can do 120HZ at 1080P (I know many people will go 1080P looks awful but imo it really doesn't, not when you sit the required distance from 55", and plus no matte coating thus screen looks a lot sharper already and add in the infinite contrast ratio, that also helps with the "perception" of clarity/sharpness. Like I said before again, despite my monitor having a far higher PPI than the TV, the TV looks a million times sharper than the monitor.

Also, this TV in 60HZ mode is far better than any 60HZ LCD monitor with regards to motion clarity, input lag it isn't as good but 120HZ brings it to a very good responsive 60HZ monitor levels, if not better.

And as mentioned before, if you are using a controller, the input lag becomes even less of an issue.

And yup, it is quite a bit, personally I wouldn't spend more than £1500 but if you can get one for that or cheaper then it is worth it imo.

Looking good but my god, what setting is that on? Looks super saturated i.e. vibrant mode :p :D

And yup, viewing photos online especially if viewing them on a LCD doesn't show give any impression as to what OLED is really like in person, you just can't represent the contrast ratio/blacks in a photo viewed on LCD.

Just on normal game mode :D. Only a quick pic, with out of the box settings. Brightness is pretty high. I know I really need to make some adjustments especially to contrast :P.

I'm very happy with 4k 60, does feel nice and smooth. Although like you say I have the choice of 120hz which I may be using for fps games like bf1. I'll have to have a look and a play later on/tomorrow.

Just need a wireless keyboard and mouse and some kind of lap surface now :) to finish it off.

Ah yeah, iirc, game mode is a bit saturated, personally I've found no need to switch to game mode yet, although iirc, it might be required for HDR gaming....

Yup once I can get a way of being able to use my M+K more comfortably with the TV, I'll probably start using mine for BF 1 too.

Mines just at the end of the bed now. Could have had it on the desk but would have been just too close and would need to move it to watch tv etc.

Really comfortable though and on an adjustable bracket so can pull it out if I want to use my chair or bed or whatever I like. Just yeah need to sort something out with my keyboard and mouse. Might just end up with long USB cables tucked away and some kind of lap surface.

I'm not really a huge fps player really. Only bf1, battlefront and WW2, rest I use controller anyway.

I thought 55" would be too big and even when I first got it, I thought, it was still too big but now looking at it, it is actually a bit small looking! :p :D

You quickly adapt to it.

But yeah even non oled tvs are still way better than monitors where IQ is concerned etc.

Same I thought so too. It is absolutely huge but it fills your view nicely.

I wouldn't recommend it for close up on a desk but at a distance. 4-5-6-7-8ft like I am then it really is so nice.

Even at 4ft it fills the same view as the x34 does
close up.

We may be waiting a while for any smaller OLED sets, but MicroLED might deliver something sooner than that... still, it's going to be years I reckon.

As a daily desktop monitor a 55" OLED would, I suspect, be just too much, although I'm curious to see if anyone has gone with it and found to be OK.

Yes, smaller OLED would be what I'd need but alas it's years away by the look of it. I've done some research on LED 4K HDR in the 43" range, but I just can't convince myself to pull the trigger.

I think I'm back to holding out for a monitor I could consider an upgrade to my X34a. As in thread title, 4K Ultrawide at 100Hz minimum.

Having seen the OLED it's really drew my attention to the BLB with my IPS panel. Is OLED making its way into the PC monitor market or are there issues with screen burn that would prevent this?

I read that LG were developing smaller OLEDs, according to this quote...

"LG Electronics is going to expand lineup of its OLED TVs. It is heard that LG Electronics is going to make wallpaper TV, which is only 4mm in thickness, even thinner and create a lineup made up of small OLED TVs. LG Electronics is also putting their focus on its major business such as OLED TV business."

Hopefully we will see/hear more about this at CES in January.

Also this is an interesting watch regards what we might see in the near future, but I suspect it will be a while before we see any affordable product that really excites us from the PC perspective...
