580 GTX Price is up....

How does that vapour chamber work when the card is actually placed in a case, given that liquid will always evaporate upwards and the cards in PCI-e slots are upside down ?
Good point!

Is it kinda like heatpipes but in this case a big chamber instead of individual pipes?

wait mate
by the time the 6970s are in there will hopefully be more 580 stock
nvidia arent going to have their worlds fastest card under produced are they, if that ws the case we would all get ****** off and go red

it is quite widely reported that they only have 10% of gtx580's compared to 6970's so perhaps they will sell out if very popular.

really shocked how they managed to keep this card very quiet and then sneak it in before AMD's 6970... I mean we have known about the 6970 but not spec, but the gtx580 was pretty much none existent untill a couple of weeks ago.

That means nvidia have learnt from the first fermi launch and know getting in first gives them a great advantage.

All i can say is nvidia have been busy little bees getting this card done and out the door in such a short space of time.

Hats off to them.

Yeah - I'm not completely unconnected from the industry and have heard literally nothing about this card until a week ago! usually odd bits of info would start coming up in conversation months before a new release.

It works on the same principle, yes :)

I'm really quite interested in how the vapour chamber will operate - particularly in different orientations. I have wondered for years why something like this has not been implemented before... It's quite an "obvious" thing to try, so I guess there must be some technical / economic challenges that need to be addressed. In principle it could be extremely efficient... We all remember the improvements that heatpipes offered when they first arrived on the scene, and here the contact area for the coolant with the hot surface is far greater than with heatpipes.

You know, I think I'm more interested in this new cooler design than any other aspect of the GTX580 :p

would a corsair hx1000 power 2 no problem ?
not that i want two

Yes... Power draw is expected to be around 20% less than a GTX480, and a corsair HX1000 is more than enough for a GTX480 SLI setup. You could potentially get away with three if you wanted, although that may be pushing it a bit (we will have to wait for final power-draw stats to see).

This doesn't look that legit as i thought they were doing away with the massive cooler with the redesign.
but they have defo made space on their site for it...

(i removed all mention of the name etc.. and no link to site but let me know if it needs to be taken down)
